Hi,
I've used 1-day Acuvue Moist contacts in my right eye for years with no problems (had a radial keratotomy in my left eye long ago). Just this past year my "contact" eye is continuously red and irritated, even when I first get up in the morning (I never sleep with it on). I mean it’s really bloodshot, and the upper and lower lids are red and puffy, so much so that it looks noticeably smaller than my other eye! My eye doctor has done every kind of test and given me 2 or 3 different prescription drops, plus allergy- and re-wetting drops, but nothing helps. I use a fresh contact every day with Opti-Free Replenish and take every precaution. I’m so tired of looking and feeling like I have pink eye. Does anyone have any idea what’s happening and how I can fix it? Thank you… Liliane |

It sounds like you and your eye doctor have gone over this thing pretty thoroughly, but there's one thing you didn't mention. Have you tried a solution else besides Opti-Free Replenish? In many cases, sensitivity to a particular brand of contact lens solution can cause these symptoms, but not usually in a daily disposable. Many people just put their 1-Day Acuvue Moist contacts in and then throw them away. It's not much of a suggestion, but it's the only thing I can think of. Let us know how it's going for you, okay? |

Thank you so much for your quick response. I agree with you that I should try a different contact solution.
After reading archives from this and other forums last night, I felt I had to get more aggressive or risk damage to my eye. Today I went to my doctor’s office, talked extensively to the contact lens nurse, and asked for samples of other brands of contacts. Interestingly enough, she said she has very sensitive eyes, and that changing brands of cl had solved similar problems for her. She gave me samples of Proclear 1 Day and Ciba Vision Dailies AquaComfort Plus. What a relief when I took out the 1 Day Acuvue Moist and put in a Proclear 1 Day … it was an immediate difference. My eye is still somewhat red and my lids swollen, but the discomfort is all but gone. Not out of the woods yet, but it’s a start, and I turned in an unopened box of the Acuvue Moist for a $ credit! I always thought that 1 Day Acuvue Moist was the Holy Grail of contacts for people with dry eyes. If it weren’t for your forum, I wouldn’t have taken action today and would still be suffering. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I will keep you posted on my progress with different brands of lenses and solution. Liliane P.S. I've found that peer to peer forums like this one are where I always find answers, no matter what kind of problem I query on Google (from repairing my dishwasher to software bug fixes). The Internet is wonderful! |
