If you wanted to switch between to very similar contact lenses like 1-Day Acuvue Moist and Focus Dalies, would you have to get a new prescription? Is there anything else you'd have to do to make the switch?

Yes you have to get a new prescription because the contact lenses are medical devices which must be prescribed to you. You can not even change contact lenses with in the same brand like you have a prescription for Acuvue 1-day moist and decide you would like Acuvue Oasis instead the place you go to purchase lenses even online can not send them out with out at least attempting to confirm your prescription. You need a new prescription for every change regardless how similar the lenses are. Just like with medications you can not tell the pharmacist you want to try valium if xanax is the drug prescribed for you! (well you can tell him or her that you want to try valium but they can not legally give it to you with out a prescription from the doctor)

Yeah, you'd need a new prescription since the base curves and diameters for Focus Dailies and Acuvue 1 Day Moist lenses are different. I have a BC of 8.6 and a diameter of 13.8, so I couldn't get Acuvue 1 Day Moist lenses (BC 8.5 or 9.0, Dia 14.2) without a new prescription. So far though, I'm happy with the focus dailies, just really wish they had that 123 so you can tell if they're inside out.

I'd like to add my caution to those of petlover1 and tech42er. Even if you go from one kind of contact lenses to another without switching brands, you still need to have a prescription. I don't think you will need anything else. If for some reason your eye doctor can't recommend a certain brand, she won't give you the prescription.

You sound like you've used contact lenses before that had that 123 inversion mark. |
