I suppose it depends on how old the child is, and how capeable they are of putting them in themselves. As far as safety goes, I think it may be safer than them wearing glasses, but I would speak to your optician first.

Default No in my opinion

I don't think any contact lens is a good idea for children below the age of thirteen. The brain is still forming and the word caution means little to them. Glasses are ok. This bs about them being ugly is just plain crap. Glasses treat a medical condition....not help you win a beauty contest

Very well said Glasses will often help correct minor things that if left will get worse.

I would hate to put a young child in contacts and would think that glasses would be safer.

Default Glasses are better for infants

I would think that glasses would be better for infants. I would not want to have to put contacts in and possibly do anymore damage.

I would also worry about the child getting it out of his or her eye and putting it in their mouth. Let's not forget how children touch their face, rubs their eyes and nose---contacts probably aren't the best option.

Interesting question though--I wonder if any children do wear contacts.

I don't think any contacts are made for children younger than 5 or 6 at the youngest...might be older, even 8.

Do you really mean infant?
If yes, I'm not sure for what purpose. But I think its not safe and possible at the same time.

I'm no eye doctor, but I don't think you should do that. Children are still developing. I think glasses are safer than putting contacts on a child. Children are very curious and lots of things happen to them. Contacts could only be addin to the problem.

I would not recommend letting a child use contact lenses and I don't think a practitioner would agree either. I had to wait until I was 16 before I was allowed to wear them. This was because my eyes were still developing.

some infants and children with serious vision problems often can be helped to see well with contact lenses, says a pediatric contact lens specialist.

i think it depend on the eye doctor itself..but personally its dangerous for the child to have one if she/he cant take care of it..i mean the taking off and cleaning it needs an adult to do such things ..

Like others have said, it would depend on the age of the child. As long as he or she is at least old enough to go to school and take care of themselves there, it's probably safe for them to wear contacts. As far as being practical for a child, some of the other factors mentioned below such as responsibility and good hygiene habits would come into a play. Giving contacts to a child may not be wise, but it's probably safe.
