Default 1 Day Acuvue Moist Won't Come Out After a Hot Shower

I heard a story once about a girl who kept her contact lenses in as she took a hot shower. Afterward, she could not get her right contact lens out. Did the steam from the shower have anything to do with her contact lens getting stuck? I think they were 1 Day Acuvue Moist contacts.

I had check the link and its very informative..and i would like to quote on a part of it here..MYTH: Contact lenses can get fused to your eye.

FACT: There are lots of “urban legends” about contact lenses getting stuck or fused to people’s eyes. There is absolutely no truth to these made-up stories.

Hmmm . . . if I may offer an observation, it seems that Lee was either taken in by an urban legend or maybe his friend's contact lens was just stuck and not "fused." Is that a possibility? After you wear your contacts in a hot shower they become, not impossible to remove, just very difficult?

I think you may have something there, Earthshock. I don't think steam is hot enough to melt contacts. Could it be that the contact lenses absorbed moisture from the humid air in the shower and swelled up? I know that's a stretch, but it's my leading theory right now.

She probably catched some water between her eyes and lens.

I don't think so. I think it should even be the opposite. Doesn't cold water do that? I mean hot always loosen thing and cold do the opposite.

Or... Maybe the girl was just not able to think that she can't remove the lens when she really could. Experts have already said that its impossible right?

That sounds possible, given that there is high possibility that that can't really happen.

Hey now, savvyeyty. Let's not have any name calling on Lens 101. I like that this is a friendly place where people can feel safe asking any question they need to get an answer for, and people won't do that if they think someone is going to come along and call them "stupid."

Heat makes most thing expand, so applying hot water or steam will make for a tighter fit, unless you heat the outer object, like a bottle with a cork in it.

Gosh! I'm very sorry. I didn't mean to. I also like this place having friendly people as well. I just didn't realize what I just said. I changed it now. I'm really sorry. Sometimes I just really swear all of a sudden when I really want to say something. I'm so sorry everyone. I swear I didn't mean it.

I'm so sorry. I expressed my feeling like that all of a sudden but that's just it, an expression. I didn't really mean it. I just say things that I want to say sometimes without thinking just so I won't lose what I want to express. I'm really sorry. It won't happen again.

Hi savvyeyty.

I hope you don't feel like they were ganging up on you. I admire your thoughtfulness in apologizing to each person who posted individually. That takes more courage and humility than I've got. Your comments have not been deleted so I guess you are forgiven by the Great and Powerful Moderator. I wish more people on these boards would just apologize when necessary instead of making excuses or escalating a "flame war."

Keep on posting, savvyeyty.

Great! At least you apologized and even changed it. Not everyone really does that. I understand when you said its just an expression or that sort. I'm also like that sometimes, I even think we all are. Oh well, looking forward to your comments again.

Good move, Scienceguy.

Let me also congratulate savvyeyty for his or her humility in apologizing for a remark that really wasn't so awful, but it apparently offended a lot of people.

I agree that we need to keep this post friendly and name calling should be discouraged. In the same way, when someone makes a mistake and apologizes, we should be just as quick to forgive.

Group hug!

Wow, when I posted that question in February of 2008, I didn't have any idea it would lead to all this!

So it's clear to you, then? I'm still a little confused. In Lee Roberts' original question, were the lenses permanently "fused" or just stuck?

That sounds like a good explanation to me. The contacts may have expanded after absorbing moisture. Like this lady's pouty lips.

An apparently topless woman with her eyes closed and pouty lips. This thread is approaching an "R" rating.
