Most opticians seem to be pushing clients towards Daily lenses, especially for children who may not look after longer term lenses so well.

They are more convenient for people who can't or won't take the trouble to sterilise them each night.

Better for travelling, especially with all this nonsense about not carrying liquids in your carry on baggage on flights.

Less problematic if you have build ups/deposits on your lenses.

Cheaper if you have a habit of loosing lenses (swimming, etc).

But they are usually made of conventional hydrogel materials (at present), which are low in oxygen permeability, compared to the latest silicone hydrogel longer term lenses.

I find the Daily lenses sometimes rather fiddly and prone to folding in on themselves while putting them into my eye.

Daily lenses are more expensive than monthly lenses by quite a lot the last time I checked, but you don't need to buy lens solutions. Still about twice the price of Monthly lenses.

Personally I wear Biofinity and find them much more comfortable than the Daily lenses I have worn and also they are extremely oxygen permeable and healthier for your eyes.

Some 2 weekly & monthly silicone hydrogel lenses are classed as extended wear. That means, subject to your eye care professional's approval, you can wear them 24/7 for up to one month, without having to do daily disinfection/cleaning of the lenses.

It's a case of weighing up the pros and cons of each lens and deciding which option is best for you. Personally I wouldn't consider daily lenses over Biofinity monthly lenses.

My eye doctor told me that the Biofinity class of lenses (i.e. silicone hydrogel) are very high in oxygen permeability and even though they are the best available, the best is only JUST good enough. i.e. the older type hydrogel lenses just don't permit an adequate supply of oxygen to the corneas.

Silicone hydrogel is relatively new, 2-3 years, so I guess in time, Daily lenses will become available in silicone hydrogel. Then you can have the best of both worlds (apart of course from price ).
