Maybe, but according to my Google search lenses that were made of a combination of glass and plastic were first introduced in 1936. The article didn't say how long it was before the glass lenses were phased out completely. By 1980, though, I don't think anyone was still wearing glass lenses.

The 80's featured parachute pants, mullets and colorful sunglasses, but I don' think glass contact lenses were around any more.
