The other factor an optician may consider is RGP lenses, which may or may not slow down the rate of change in myopia as a teenager grows up. My son was fitted with RGP lenses, but his eye sight still changed quite a bit (though perhaps less than it would have if he was wearing spectacles or soft lenses).

Does your son still wear the RGP lenses? How is his vision? Has it settled down now?
