That is why people say "Don't drink on an empty stomach". If you have a meal, the stomach must partially digest the food before the stomach outlet valve opens to allow the contents to enter the intestine where the full digestion takes place. Therefore, any alcohol in the stomach is also delayed entering the intestines where it would be absorbed.
So, if you drink on a full stomach, it will take a lot longer to get drunk!
