Yes, water is a very good environment for microscopic organisms to swim around in. Your stomach has acids to fight against those bacteria, but your eyes don't have anything like that. So you must protect them.
I don't know who said that "water is one of the dirtiest elements on Earth," but I find that hard to believe. A cool, clear mountain stream, dirty? If you want real trouble, do like Australian boxer Anthony Mundine did and clean a
