Default A-2 High Impact SG103T Sunglasses and Blue Light Absorption

Lately I've been hearing a lot of fuss about something called "short wave blue light absorption" in sunglasses. Some manufacturers brag about their products' 98% percent absorption rate.

Does anyone here know what they're talking about? What so bad about blue light? Should we shield ourselves from the blue sky or something?

Wow. Thanks for the detailed and helpful answer, Building63. So are all blue lights harmful? The blue lights on a Christmas tree, the flashing lights on a police car, and who can forget the famous Blue Light Special? Should I wear sunglasses when shopping at K-mart?

Slow down. The article didn't spell it out, but it seems to be that the blue light you should be most concerned about is the blue light from the sun. I know it's hard to think of yellow sunlight in terms of the color blue, but pass the sun's rays through a prism, and there's the blue.

You may continue to safely shop at your neighborhood K-mart.

Well that's a relief. You're right, too. It is strange to think about blue light coming from a yellow sun.
