Default Faking a Doctor's Name to Get Acuvue 2 Colours - Enhancers Illegally?

I read in another section here in Lens 101 about someone on another site advising people to just make up a fake doctor's name to get some contacts. What a stupid idea!

Did you ever accidentally misspell your doctor's name and the contact lens company contacted you and said "We can't sell you your contact lenses because we couldn't get a hold of your doctor to confirm your prescription"?

Making up a fake doctor's name for any reason is a stupid idea. Who would actually advise someone to do that?

I would not advise anyone to do this, and I hope Lens 101 doesn't either.

My question still remains. Have you been reminded recently that contact lens stores really do check up on the validity of the prescription by calling your doctor before selling you anything?

Cool I know a site that doesn't verify....

I know its not a good thing, but I know for a fact that the website i use to order contacts doesn't veirfy with the doctor. I'm not going to list the website here, but you can email me at gamer_girl1984@yahoo.com and I'll tell you what it is. or just message me on this site.

I know this because when it asked me to submit my doctors phone number and name, I put my boyfriends name down, and I put my phone number down. they called my phone number and left a automated voice mail with the perscription info and their contact info. saying if this persciption isn't correct to contact them.... I didn't respond to the voice mail, and got this email:

Thank you for your recent order with XXXXXXXXXXXXXX

This email is just to confirm that your order has been verified according to your prescription. Your order is currently being processed and will be shipped to you shortly.

Under the Fairness to Contact Lens Consumers act, we are required to let you know that we did not hear back from your eye care practitioner's office when we tried to confirm your prescription. This means that by law we are allowed to process and ship your order. If we hear from your Eye Care Practitioner at a later time that there was an issue with your order, we will contact you. No action is required on your part.

And if you go to the website to check on your order, it actaully says, the doctor has 8 hours to get back to them, if they don't they ship your order to you. Its kinda goofy, but they make money. Hope this helps!

As they say in the British Isles . . . "Who's a clever girl then?"

This website that you gave the false doctor's name and number to, it wouldn't happen to be the sponsor of this site, would it? I hope not. I've heard a lot of good things about them.

Thanks for the detective work, though. You're a regular Charlie's Angel.

Wow Deejayt. That's pretty clever of you to do that. It's a shame that this contact lens seller dropped the ball so thoroughly. Maybe someone from that company will read this and review their verification process.

How did your boyfriend like being promoted to a doctor?

Oh, and to everyone out there, it is not the sponsor of this site. A different one.

It's good to know that Lens.com wasn't the company who didn't verify with your "doctor" regarding you prescription.

I re-read this post and the part that caught my attention is when they said "Under the Fairness to Contact Lens Consumers act, we are required to let you know that we did not hear back from your eye care practitioner's office when we tried to confirm your prescription. This means that by law we are allowed to process and ship your order."

That's like saying to your Mother when you're being punished "Well, you never said I couldn't."
"You never asked me," your Mom would say.
"Yes, I did," you'd counter. "I whispered it from the other side of the house and you didn't answer, so I figured it would be okay."

Do you have kids, Deejayt? In your picture you look pretty young, but you never know these days. Does this scenario sound familiar?

I was about to say the same thing. Their logic seems strange. "We weren't able to verify that you actually need these contacts, so by law we must send them to you." Huh?

What if you were at the airport and you heard this: "Since we are unable to verify that you aren't carrying explosives, this means that by law we are allowed to send you on airplane. Have a nice flight"?

I'd find another airline.

It seems like a lot of people at Lens 101 find this logic to be strange. In one other post this verification thing would be like ringing someone's doorbell and when they don't answer you climb in through the window. Wouldn't it be best to find out why you got no response rather than pretend you got the response you wanted? That sort of "logic" would have some startling repercussions in the dating scene . . .

*SLAP!* "What do you think you're doing?"
"Relax, baby. I thought you were giving me the 'go ahead' signal."
"Do that again and you'll find out what mace feels like in your eyes."

That's a relief to know that Lens.com was not the victim of your covert operation there. I'd like to think they'd be smarter than that.

It reminds me of a TV show that demonstrated how easy it is to get a handicapped parking placard by just providing a fake doctor's name and contact information. I bet it's a lot more difficult now.

Disclaimer: Please do not take this as a challenge. What kind of person wants a fake handicapped parking placard, anyway?

I hear ya, Miller. Who wants a fake parking placard and contact lenses obtained with a fake prescription? I'd rather wait for my contacts to be properly fitted.

Good one, Lee. It sounds like the same principle is at work here. I sure hope nothing like that has happened to any Lens.com customers.

I hope it's more difficult now to get a placard illegally.

Yeah, that's the "logic" of the business world for you. Like when I was trying to get to work one morning via public transportation. I concluded when I got to work twenty five minutes late that whoever designed those bus routes and schedules did not let logic or efficiency get in the way.

Nobody here on Lens 101, I hope.

In general it seems that Lens 101 members try to get others to do the right thing.

Well, I hope we've got enough analogies to convince our members and casual readers that contact lens suppliers should be more careful when they dispense these things to check up on the validity of the prescriptions more carefully.

I just thought of something. If you misspelled your eye doctor's name, that probably would not present a difficulty. A bigger problem would be if you gave them the wrong number. That would likely cause them to hold back the contact lenses until they get the correct number and talk to your doctor. I wonder if they would call the patient and ask for the correct number, or would they Google it or something?
