Default Can You Fit Your Own Color Contacts?

I know someone who wears a pretty high base curve for her contact lenses. I don't know the exact number, but I think it's about 8 or so. The only color contacts that she can find that even list her base curve is Acuvue 2 Enhancers. She tells me she doesn't want to have to pay for a fitting, so she wants to just buy the contacts and hope they fit. It sounds kind of risky to me, but on the other hand, color contacts are very popular and people buy them all the time. If they're so easy to get, have all these people walking down the street in their color contacts gone in for a fitting by their eye doctor? So what's the recommended procedure for ordering color contacts on line? To fit, or not to fit? That is the question.

AmigaBonita,

I'd have to say I agree with you and you should tell your friend to go to the eye doctor to get her eyes examined before ordering her colored contacts. I'm pretty sure they check to make sure you have a current and valid prescription before selling you contacts. To do otherwise would be risky for the contact lens company as well as your friend's eyes. This is not the time to take shortcuts.

That sounds like good advice, Optix Wizard. If you're going to get color contacts it's a good idea to get checked by your eye doctor in order to get the proper prescription.

The question remains, though . . . what if the contact lenses she wants don't come in her exact size? Is she just out of luck?
