Default Enhancers or Opaques?

If you've got really light blue eyes--almost gray--would an enhancer contact lens or an opaque be recommended for a better color change?

The opaque is what you'd want to actually change your color.

I believe that enhancers are designed to tint or draw attention to a natural eye-colour, while opaques are designed to actually change your eye-colour.

I would actually play devil's advocate to everyone else on this forum, and say YES, I WOULD recommend enhancers for a better color change for your particular eyes.

I say that, because enhancers are meant for people with light colored eyes such as yours. They are tints over the entire contact, so your own natural pattern still shows through, while the color itself is changed to whatever the tint is. Acuvue only has green and blue enhancers, however, other brands even have BROWN enhancers for light-colored eyes that would make your eyes brown, while others have violet, yellow...etc. Because you have a pretty much white palette, any color would be very noticeable on your eyes, and you can change your eyes to any color of the rainbow while still maintaining your own natural eye pattern and depth.

Opaques are just said to be more noticeable b/c they are painted-on colors instead of just tints, so yes, they would cover up dark colors well and really change eye colors for dark-eyed people. However, b/c it is a flat color, they can easily be spotted, can have a fake-looking pattern to them, and they all have a blunt pupil hole that totally gives them away if you have light colored eyes underneath.

(exhibit A, my Sapphire Acuvue 2's

Basically, Opaques are used usually on darker eyes to change them dramatically; usually to make them lighter. Enhancers change tints on light-colored eyes like yours, and can be just as dramatic on light-colored eyes as opaques on dark-colored eyes. So, unless you want to make your eyes even lighter (White or gray), I recommend enhancers. Or, pick opaque lenses that blend into a blue/gray near the pupil hole, to match your eye color. =)

Thank you for your input, jellymelly14. What you say about enhancer contact lenses allowing the pattern of your iris to show through makes a lot of sense. I never looked at it that way before.

Nice test lens, by the way.

hehe, thanks.=P If I had lighter eyes, I'd totally wear enhancers over opaques.

I think it would be funny to wear those test lenses and say to someone "Look into my eyes and tell me what you see."

What do you think about posting a picture or two in this thread? You could use the same pictures as you've already posted so people don't have to leave this thread to see them, or maybe you can post some new pictures. What do you say?

Aw, come one. You're all rested and ready after a Christmas break, right?

I've seen your pictures before, and whatever contact lenses you choose, you always look good. Don't make the good people of Lens 101 search other threads for your pictures. That's too much work for us. lol

I know! Just click on my screen name and a drop down menu should show up and click "view all posts by jellymelly14," that might help. =D

That helps a little, but it only shows the text in your posts. I found some pictures only because I scanned the text until I found "here are some pictures" or something obvious like that.
Maybe our beloved Webmaster can make it easier for Lens 101 users to find pictures. We've got some good looking members on this forum.

Until then I guess we'll just have to find those pictures of jellymelly14 on this computer forum the old fashioned way.

This is so funny. I haven't been to this thread in a while, and as I was scrolling down I saw a big blue eye and thought "that looks like jellymelly's eye."

Honestly, that's true.
