Can colored contact lenses like Acuvue 2 Colours make your eyes look bigger? That wide-eyes anime look is in, so can these contact lenses help someone achieve it?

I'm not sure about that. Lighter colours can sometimes make your eyes look bigger, so it might work.

It's possible. If they have that dark limbal ring around the edges, they could conceivably make your eyes look bigger.

Usually, light colors make things look bigger. That's why black clothes are slimming. However, these contacts with the dark limbal rings make your eyes look bigger, too. Wear the contacts with a black dress and you might just disappear altogether.

If you look like that and wear a dress like that, I doubt if anyone will be looking at your eyes anyway. Your face will probably disappear from their vision. Especially men, but not exclusively.

Yes, you're probably right, BoSoxFan. No one will notice the woman's eyes in the picture, but she will definitely not disappear altogether.

In response to this and the other on this forum...Circle lenses would make your iris appear bigger b/c they tend to be a larger contact with a limbal ring (black ring around the contact). HOWEVER, these are not legally sold in the U.S., and because of that, prescription, quality, base curve size, etc, is not really monitored if you're just buying them online from any old international site. A contact that is not the right size for your eye can scratch it and damage it, causing infections and ulcers of the eye. These contacts also have a higher risk of doing that b/c they are larger and might slide around your eye. And, since they are not FDA approved or regulated, you never know if you're getting a good, clean pair of contacts. Not worth it!

Anyway, there are plenty of other colored contacts that tend to have a slightly large diameter with and without limbal rings that would give a larger iris effect. (Venus brand contacts, for instance).

Yeah that's what I mean. The colored part of the contact is bigger than my iris so that outer ring makes my eyes look bigger. It's not much of a change up close but I can really tell the difference when I wear clear contacts.

I get complements but I also know some people think they don't look real. I wish they made some that were a little less colored like the ones that were just discontinued, the Freshlook Radiance in Eden or Moonlight. I would have stocked up on those but they never fit as well as the Demensions do. I've worn these Demensions for many years now.

When you say the Radiance and Moonlight lenses "never fit as well as the Dimensions do," were they uncomfortable, or did they look strange? Perhaps that's why they've been discontinued.

They moved when I blinked. I'm not sure if that meant they were too large or too small. The Freshlook Colorblends do the same thing. I can only wear the Dimensions. I hope they will replace the Radiance with some other color enhancing contact that fits like the Dimensions do. I think the Dimensions are made for dark eyes and that's why they don't look real in some lighting on me. The Colorblends are the same in that respect too.

I used to wear the Acuvue 2 Colours but they don't make my eyes look bigger. I guess it's a trade off. :/

I think that when your contact lenses move when you blink, it means that your base curve is too small. Imagine a bowl on a table upside down. Now imagine trying to stack a smaller bowl on top of it, also upside down. The smaller bowl will slide off, and that's what I think is happening with you, kellyboo.

No, same brand just different color type.

Freshlook Dimensions fit well.

Freshlook Colorblends or the discontinued Radiance move around.

I'm ok with them but I really wish I could find enhancing colors for light eyes with the dark outer ring like these have. These are mainly for darker eyes so they sometimes don't look real on me in some lighting.

I still wish I could find a well fitting contact with just a hint of aqua color and an outer ring cause I like the way these make my eyes bigger. They look much more fake in the pic than they do for real cause I had to take it so close up but they do still look fake at times. :P

I thought the darker outer ring on the Dimensions made my eyes look demonic and so did some of my friends. haha

They didn't make my irises look any bigger, though. I guess that's because my irises are already bigger than average... the tinted portion of the Acuvue Enhancers don't cover them completely.

What color are your eyes? My friends never said anything like that about mine and they would have if they thought it. :P

Wow, the tinted portion doesn't come close to covering my irises but I kinda liked that part of my own color showed.

I've about given up on colored contacts now though. I might try the Acuvue Enhancers again...maybe. I wore them about 10 years ago. They're ok.

... I was talking about the Acuvue Colours lenses when I said that... part of the outer portion of my iris is not covered by the tint with those lenses. The larger diameter of the freshlook dimensions tint covers my iris almost perfectly.

My eyes are green/hazel. I guess the sea green tint in the Dimensions really didn't mix well with my natural color and turned it like a vibrant alien green with a clearly defined dark outer ring.

Your eyes are really beautiful without the contacts! I can't do greens either, only aquas or blues or maybe grays. How did they fit? You gonna try a different color?

I just wish they weren't so dark in normal lighting. I only really get compliments when people see them in direct sunlight. In direct sunlight or in really well lit rooms they look really green. I'll attach a picture I just took in incandescent lighting using my phone from farther away. Can't be bothered to crop it well this late at night.

This is how my eye color appears indoors in most light, I think. Minus all the bloodshot appearance - I've only had 2 hours sleep in the past 48 hours.

The freshlooks didn't fit too well. My vision was always blurring up. The Acuvue lenses in the 8.7 base curve actually fit really well in terms of visual acuity. I went out for a run with the demo lenses and even with all that wind in my face there was minimal blurring.

The Acuvue enhancers in Emerald Green came today! I will post pictures tomorrow in a new thread if I have time!!

By the way, I love how fast you reply! It's nice to finally meet someone else who stays on top of discussion board posts!

I think a lotta people are having trouble with the fit from Freshlook but they have the cool color combos. To bad they don't listen and correct their fit. It's so wierd how I can wear the Dimensions but not the Colorblends. I get so much movement in the Colorblends I can't see at all.

So you like the colors of the Freshlook Dimensions the best? I tend to prefer the solid tint of the Acuvue. I guess because the center part of my eye has a very luminous looking gold/russet pigment that really looks freaky when the contrast is turned up on the green in my eye. The tint in the Acuvue lenses makes that gold/russet color look dark brown and muted so the green becomes the prominent color. Without the contacts the green in my eyes is muted so it looks grey/dark from more than a few feet away in most light, and the gold/russet takes over and makes my eyes look light to medium brown. Frustrating to have them mistaken for brown since they have so many other more prominent colors!

I tried a sample Color Blends lens in 'Green' and it actually didn't change my eye color at all (matched pertty well with my natural eye color) but it had a very pronounced sticker effect (lacked corneal depth and generally looked very fake). Also, it moved around a ton in my eye just like they do in your eyes! And whenever I talk to someone who wears them on their dark brown eyes that are so dark that they appear black in most light the center portion is never in line with the actual pupil. And worse, each eye does its own mis-alignment thing... so it looks like they're looking in all sorts of independently random directions with each eye. Not something I want to have people thinking about while I'm talking to them!

I guess I feel like even though the Dimensions have a light tint, it's still a printed pattern and people with great eyesight will notice from normal talking distance that I'm wearing color changing contacts so I feel self conscious. I'd answer with the truth if asked directly but I'd like to feel confident that most people will think the net result is really my natural eye color instead of just seeing me as 'that person with the fake colored contacts'. haha

I didn't have a chance to take any pics today since I slept through most of the good daylight hours.

I try. It's nice and refreshing to know and be able to interact with someone else out there who does the same!

I think I mostly like how the Demensions make my eyes bigger and the colors are just more interesting in the Caribean Aqua but I'd probly go for the Acuvues if they just added the slightly darker ring to their solid aqua colored contacts. I understand what you mean about the Freshlook mixtures of colors not working for you though.

I would sometimes get asked if I was wearing contacts but it was usually after they said "wow your eyes are so pretty!" so it didn't bother me too much.

*Sigh* but now I'm getting to where I can't see up close with either my contacts or glasses on.

I read this post and couldn't believe that there's no such thing as color bifocal contact lenses, so I set out to find some. I couldn't find them. Not on Lens.com and not on the Internet at large either. Maybe that's something Johnson & Johnson can get to work on.

IDK if there is a large enough market for them but that would be nice. Only problem is, they're already really expensive so making them colored would cost even more. I actually see a bit better with one contact designed to see far and one designed to see near so that's how I'm getting around the bifocal thing. Have you tried that? Maybe you could still get colored contacts that way.

I've worn them before, a long time ago. Doc didn't say much for or against them. She seemed fine with my choice. Not really steered me away, more like warned me what I was getting into then gave me a trial pair. Good thing too cause they felt kinda dry after a while.

I actually see better with the non bifocal contacts than I did with the bifocal ones. One contact is adjusted for far vision and one for near vision.

Hey you guys! This is my first post, I've been trying to look some stuff up so I hope you'll respond to me. I actually bought the Freshlook Dimensions in Sea Green. They gave my natural green eyes a beautiful green shade. But as someone above mentioned, they don't look all that natural. Like people who don't know me are a little confused on whether I have such a rare green natural color or if I'm wearing some kinda contacts. I got a lot of compliments, but also very often get asked "are they real"? And that's not the affect I was going for. I wanted to enhance my eyes and make them brighter without making them look unrealistic a bit, and having to answer these questions. But i guess it depends on preference, like kellyboo likes the ring around the dimensions, but I really dont..I feel like if the ring wasn't there the contacts would look a lot more natural. And they also tend to darken light eyes a bit..they gave me a darker shade of green than my natural color. So now I want to try out Acuvue 2 Colors enhancers in emerald green. This is where I need your help!! I plan to buy them online wthout a docs prescription cuz my school optometrist said he doesn't do Acuvue 2 anymore bc they're old. And I don't want to pay like 100$ just to get a prescription somewhere :/ So I need to somehow guess my BC. In Freshlook my diameter is 14.5 and the BC just says Median. Whatever that is..but In clear contacts I'm usually an 8.6. so does that mean I should try the 8.7 or 8.3? Which would be closer? I ordered a trial contact of acuvue in 8.7 I believe..it seemed to fit well but when I blink it would slide downward just a bit and then come back up. Is that normal? Or does that mean BC is slightly off? Bc 8.7 is closer to 8.6 so I don't think it would be an 8.3..Sorry for the rambling, I hope someone will be able to respond to me! Thanks guys!!

Hi nikky. Welcome to Lens 101. I'm glad you found us.

Now, about your question. We care about you here on Lens 101, even if it's your very first post. That's why I'm going to strongly recommend against your plan to buy contact lenses without a prescription. First of all, it's just a bad idea, and secondly, it's against the law. You have to have a prescription if you want to buy contact lenses legally. It's like wanting to drive without a driver's license. No matter how inconvenient it might be to go to the DMV and take the written and vision test and it may be a bit too expensive for you to get the license, you have to do it if you want to drive legally. You could try and get away with driving without a license or with a fake one, but why risk it?

Finally, since a contact lens prescription is a legal requirement, anyone who says they will sell you contacts without a prescription is breaking the law and the quality of those lenses is highly questionable.

All right. Sorry about the lecture. It's my duty as your faithful Artoo unit to keep you safe. Maybe you can shop around and find someone who won't charge you a hundred bucks for that prescription. I hope you do, and I hope to hear some good news from you soon.

Thanks for your concern, I understand what you're saying, and normally I'd be scared to just buy it without doctor examining my eyes first. But I already know my prescription and have few different ones so I know which sizes fit my eyes. So I really don't see how it would be necessary to get a prescription for every single lense, bc every time I would get a new brand I never had to switch to a different size. Whatever the doc put on my eye first time always worked out. So same thing with these contacts. and it's not illegal if it's bought from a country who doesn't find it illegal

So that put aside, does anyone know what's the best enhancing color for green eyes? Acuvue 2 emerald green enhancers look absolutely natural i love it! But their color green looks just a tad unrealistic. R there any other brands aside from Freshlook that carry natural looking green enhancers?

Okay, let me just add my concern about your apparent intent to by contacts without a valid prescription to what R2D2 has already said, and now I'll put aside.

When you ask "what's the best enhancing color" that's a matter of opinion. Acuvue 2 Colours - Enhancers come in an Emerald Green that I quite like, but you say they're "just a tad unrealistic." Maybe that's why I like them.

IDK about the green color n particular but I love my Aqua contacts from Focus Softcolors 1-2 week. Maybe you could give the Evergreen Softcolors from Focus a try. I didn't much care for Acuvue Enhancers in Aqua.

It's really not as much about your eyes as it is about the company that sells you the contact lenses, in my opinion. If a company really cares about their customers (or least cares about not being sued) they would make sure that they have a valid prescription before selling contact lenses to them.

You wouldn't have to get a prescription for every single lens. If your eye doctor fits you and gives you a prescription for a brand that would suit you, I don't see why you'd have to buy anything else. If brand A doesn't work then brand B probably will.

Another thing adding some excitement to the mix is that over time your prescription could change. Prescriptions are generally valid for a year, and that's because your prescription from a year ago may not be right for you today. It's really a lot better for you if you get your contact lenses from proper channels, okay?

Umm except in many countries it is not necessary to show a prescription to buy contact lenses so those particular websites are not really doing anything wrong.

Just follow common sense and don't go around sticking random contact lenses in your eye, make sure the specs line up with your prescription before ordering and that you are ordering from a reputable brand and website

I don't believe that it is the responsibility of the company to verify the laws of the country of the customer. I guess if the U.S. was completely opposed to these contacts for health reasons they would ban them from being sent to the U.S.
I don't look at my country as my parent--the way I see it is if you are stupid enough to put a contact in your eye without going to a Dr. to find out the proper specs then you deserve the consequences
The U.S. has decided that people cannot be trusted to do the responsible thing and make sure that they don't put a lens in their eyeball that was not prescribed to them. Whereas other countries place the responsibility on the consumer.

With contact lenses being around so long and the companies hiring lawyers to find loopholes, I wonder how difficult it is to sue a contact lens company? I would think that the vast majority of problems people have with contact lenses is due to their not wearing them according to the printed instructions.

Also because an enhancer is kind of transparent they would have to make the limbal ring pretty thick or else they would risk having a gap of white between the iris and the ring
