Thumbs down Do they even fit your eyes

They only make them with a flat BC (8?) so I can't wear them. I did try green opaque and liked it, but couldnt stop it from floating around my eyeball because my corneas are more steep (8.6+)

The forum moderator just informed me the above advice I got from my local OD here in NYC is wrong. He had told me the reason why when I switched from Durasoft 8.6 that fit my eyes perfectly, to Acuvue which only come in 8.0, the lenses wander around my iris too much was because the "Acuvue are too flat for my eyes". I will have to go back and ask him if he was drinking that day or what, to tell me the opposite of the real steep and flat.

According to the moderator's correction of me in the other post, BC of 8 is steeper than BC of 8.6

If you want to learn about the optics and fitting of contacts I can recommend some books. Once again I think that you may have misunderstood your Dr. Some lenses of equal base curve can exhibit different fitting charistics based on differing watter content, material, design parameters etc.

Hi Donn!

I really appreciate. Actually if I change career it might be into the optical or healthcare arena, so you really saved me some embarrassment if I was to be @ an interview and assumed base curve was steeper as you go up in #! That's like, so fundamental! And looking at a acuvue color lens and a durasoft lens side by side, they do look very different aside from BC. I don't know why, its like the acuvue looks like a very flat "Bowl" even though its supposed to be steep (8) and the Fresklook Median lens looks much more faster curving up, which shouldn't be, esp since Diam about the same. Really weird. No doubt thinness may be a factor, the acuvue material seems to drape alot more for some reason of material or thinness.
I don't know what all your degree abbreviations mean, will look them up in a bit... Where do you go to school for them? I finished the premed coursework and thought about going to optometry school, but there are so few around!

Sorry to come off so rough but after seeing people come in with contact that don't fit or ones they borrowed from a friend and seeing what they can do I draw a very hard line on this in the hopes of preventing it. If you were serious about doing this for a living you are in one of the few states were you can make some real money in it. The schooling and testing in NY is top notch. As for Illinois I'm sad to say that there are no requirements. So all study must be done on ones own Just remember that base curves is a reference to the radius of curvature. Measure from the center of the sphere to the egde. The earth has such a high radius that it appears flat to us while a golf ball has such a small radius it appears to have more curvature. Some times it seems to go against common sense but the lower the number the steeper the lens.

oh and the ABO means American Board of Opticianry Certified, NCLE means National Contact Lens Examiners Certified and the CPO is Certified Paraoptometric. Going into Optometry may not be a bad deal. I have heard many ODs say they researched what field can make them the most amount of money with the least amount of work...OPTOMETRY!

Cool Daily vs Disp size

I've been wearing the daily Durasoft 2 opaques for years, (not the same lens) and they are so comfortable. My base curve is 8.3 and the diam is 14.5, I've noticed that disposables are not offered in that combination, for any brand - how can I try them - do I adjust the base curve to 8.4 & diam to 14 (as in Softlens), Acuvue - 8.4/14.4 or 8.3/14.0, or Freshlook Colors 8.6/14.5. Everyone tells me I should wear the disposables, that they are so much easier.
Thanks for any assistance you can offer.
Iris

I see alot of talk about people wanting to change lenses. There is only one way to do that and that is asking your Dr. Your contact lens is a prescription. You need to go with your Dr's RX. If you have questions you need to contact your Dr. about this.
