Default Going From Blue to Sapphire Blue With Acuvue 2 Colours - Opaques

Is there a dramatic difference between natural blue eyes and Acuvue Colors - Opaque in Sapphire blue? When people see you in the Sapphire Blue contacts do they just say "Wow"?

they say "wow" but they also say "it looks..different." Because it's not a natural-color blue. It's like a bright royal blue. Here's a picture of me wearing the blue. I have the Sapphire in my right eye, and the deep blue in my left eye. So the sapphire is on the left side of the picture, deep blue is on the right side.

Wow, I just asked you in another thread if you were willing to post a picture of your blue eyes, and here you are. They look nice on you, and if I had to pick one, I think I'd choose the sapphire. The Deep Blue is a little too deep; they just makes your eyes look dark in that picture.

Haha yep! I just became a member so I'm posting on everything, mostly because I've been testing out a lot of the acuvues. That really is the best advice for people wanting to try contacts...go to an eye doctor, and they'll give you testers so you know what it looks and feels like in your eye; that way you can judge for yourself.

Mary, I agree, I like the sapphire. I've been asking around and get mixed reviews, but most of all I just want something that enhances my eyes. In most lighting, the deep blue just doesn't show well on dark eyes. What I usually get from people is either "wow, the sapphire looks cool! You can't really see the deep blue" or "pick the deep one, the sapphire looks fake" and, from my mother, "your brown eyes look better!" She is the only one that actually wants me to keep my brown eyes or actually try DARKER brown lol! =)

You can always count on Mom to love you just the way you are. <3

Did you get your brown eyes from her, by any chance?

Now that I think about it...yes I did! My dad has blue eyes. I have five brothers and sisters, two have blue eyes, two have brown, and one has green. Weird how genetics work, eh?

I think there's a chart somewhere here on Lens 101 that shows how the genes get juggled to produce different eye colors. The person who posted it said that they have a brother and two sisters, and they all have brown eyes like their father. Their mother has blue eyes.

This is the website posted yesterday that attempts to predict eye colour probability.

Yeah I heard eye color is a pretty complicated thing, since so many genes determine it. I always wondered what color eyes the Gosselin kids have. The mom has blue eyes, the dad is half Korean with hazel/green eyes, yet all the kids have brown eyes. All eight of them!

I've always heard that brown eyes were dominant. I guess it's a bit more complicated that that.

That's a basic rule of thumb, but not always the case, because several genes determine eye color. That's how I have siblings with blue and green eyes, even though my mom has brown eyes. That's also why there are so many shades of eye colors =)

Okay, I guess you should know. You see the results of genetics every day.

Someone posted a chart on this forum somewhere that showed how not only the parents' eye color can determine the child's eye color, but even the grandparents can effect their grandchild's eye color.

Well here's me with the real sapphire blues, with my prescription, not testers!

I didn't really like acuvue at first but now that I have them, I really like them! =)

Those are beautiful contact lenses there, jellymelly14. I'm glad you learned to like the Acuvues. They look good at a normal distance, but up close your brown eyes do show through the pupils a bit. As it is often said in this forum though, most people don't look that close. Enjoy the Sapphire lenses, and don't forget to replenish your supply at Lens.com.

Great picture jellymelly. I like the Sapphire in your right eye. It's bluer.

Beautiful eyes, Jelly, and I'm glad you "let your hair down" in the second picture. Your hair and your smile really bring the whole look together. Have you gotten any compliments on your blue eyes?

Thank you! Yes, I have gotten compliments on them =) When I'm at work and I wear these, and I go up to a customer, people stop in mid-sentence to compliment my eyes. But, the contacts do stand out a lot, and they are far from a natural color, so people are always staring at me. Some ask if they're contacts, others just...stare. So it gets pretty awkward. I'm thinking about buying one of the Illusions brand contacts because of that. They're supposed to look a lot more natural. Either that, or I'll just buy clear ones and wear my sapphires when I go out or something. =T

Yeah, those blue contacts are pretty intense. At least you're getting noticed, right?

They are a fun blue, though. No one will think they're real, but they still look cool. =)

Perhaps it's just your overall stunning beauty that mesmerizes them.

Pardon my flattery. It's all part of the whole James Bond thing.

haha thanks but its one of those looks where you know they're staring at something specific, like when you have something stuck in your teeth or have a pimple or something, it's one of those awkward stares. They just look really intently at my eyes, trying to figure out what's different. I just prefer when they flat-out ask if they're contacts, so at least they'd stop staring. But I guess that's what happens when you pick a contact that doesn't look normal!

What makes you think they don't look normal? They might be a bit intense color-wise, but I think they look natural otherwise.

Exactly, to me, the color makes them look not normal, as in, not like natural blue eyes. The color is more of an electric blue, so it's a dead give away that they're contacts and people stare at them b/c of that. The pattern is really nice and natural-looking, if only they made a more normal blue color!

How about the Royal Blue mentioned earlier in this post?

I guess we answered Zoey's original question, which was "Is there a dramatic difference between natural blue eyes and Acuvue Colors - Opaque in Sapphire Blue?"

So I guess that's a yes.

Have any of your friends seen you with them for the first time and said something like "Oh, wow. Cool contacts. Where'd you get them?"

Yeah, it was either that or the deep blue...and the deep blue appeared very dark on my eyes, usually a dark gray. Either way, acuvue's blues are slightly different than any natural blue eye...at least on someone with brown eyes. I'm sure someone with lighter-color eyes, like green or gray, would probably look much more natural in the deep blue. My options were this electric blue (sapphire blue) or a dull, gray blue (deep blue). I picked sapphire. =)

When my friends first saw me with the contacts, that's pretty much what they'd say. "Oh wow, that's a cool color... I like them!" They knew my natural eye color, so they knew they were contacts, obviously. Plus I had a pretty long experience getting them, since I had to go to the eye doctor a few times and such, so they already knew where I got them (Lenscrafters lol). But overall, I get positive responses. They are a cool color, they make my eyes pop, and they work pretty well with my dark hair and pale skin.

HOWEVER, in my search for a more natural color, I have order Illusions Soft Blue from this website...which I will have at the end of the month, hopefully. So look out in the illusions thread in a few weeks for more pics! =)

Now I just need to find a natural, light green color contact... Since I originally dabbled in colored contacts wanting GREEN eyes! =P

Yeah well, duh, I guess if your friends knew you well they know in an instant that you changed your eye color. I think I know what Spookytooth was trying to say though.

I'm glad to read that you ordered some contacts from Lens.com. You'll have to let us know what you think about them when they arrive, including the delivery time. I'm sure the Lens.com people are anxious to hear what you think.

Well, so far, it's been a long wait. Illusions brand color contacts are being discontinued, and lens.com didn't have my prescription in stock anymore so they had to order them directly from the supplier. I ordered at the end of October, but shouldn't expect them until around Nov. 25th. It makes me so impatient! But, I had no problem with the actual order process. Fast and easy...and I like the whole passive-prescription process, so I don't have to wait for my doctor to respond back to them before they process my order. =)

Fast and easy...and I like the whole passive-prescription process, so I don't have to wait for my doctor to respond back to them before they process my order. =)
Yeah, it sounds like you may be in for a bit of a wait, but at least the processed your order quickly. Have you ordered from Lens.com before and that's how you it will take a couple of weeks for your contacts to arrive? Maybe they'll surprise you and get there early. Here's hoping.

No, I haven't ordered from Lens.com before. This is my second time ordering colored contacts, period. My first time was these acuvues at Lenscrafters. Lens.com tracks the order and updates me...it says it's ordering from the supplier, expected to ship 11/17, and expected delivery date in 5-7 business days. But!! I just got an email saying they shipped out my order today, so I guess I'll (hopefully) have them at the end of the week! =D!!

Excellent. Did they arrive when you expected them to, and in good condition? Just want to make sure that the sponsor makes you happy.

yep, the contacts were fine, and they actually came earlier than expected. Lens.com also has the cheapest price for Illusions that I could find. So, no complaints!

Well, they look very real and natural. They feel just like my acuvues, probably b/c they are the same base curve, except they are much more drying. (But I guess that's b/c they're yearly lenses, while acuvues are disposable and more breathable). So, after about five hours of wear, I start to get tired, red eyes, even with eye drops. My eyes are pretty sensitive though, especially since I am fairly new to contacts. I think it'll just take time to get used to them.

Thanks for the review jellymelly14. I think you probably just need more time to get used to your contacts too. Let us know how they feel in a few days. Maybe you can check back with us on Monday after the holiday?

Okay so we started out talking about Thanksgiving and then it was Labor Day. So much for modern communication.

How's the recovery going? It's been about eleven months so far.

Well, I don't know if she has a flirtatious personality or not, but she sure looks good in those blue contacts.

Yea. It would be a shame for you to buy one of those T-shirts that say "My Eyes Are Up Here."

I hate to say it, but in the case of that young lady, I don't think I'd have much trouble finding her eyes. She's got pretty eyes and, shall we say . . . not a lot of other distractions.

Yeah, no distractions other than a big white arrow.

Maybe you can stare at that "My Eyes Are Up Here" girl for a while. Don't even look her in the eye, who's going to know?

Yeah, but she hasn't posted anything in this thread for over a year. Perhaps it's time to move on. . .
