Default Chestnut Acuvue 2 Clours Opaque on Green Eyes

What do you think? Should someone with green eyes wear chestnut contact lenses? I think a combination would be weird, so I'd like to know if any original color would show through or mix in. Anybody know?

I don't wear Acuvue 2 Colours - Opaque contact lenses, but if I were shopping, I would think that the word "opaque" was a good clue that my natural color would not show through.

I think Chestnut contacts on green eyes would be fine. I'd like to see some pictures to prove, or even disprove, my point. I don't have green eyes, otherwise I might try it myself.

I have green eyes and I've worn these. You would never know my eyes weren't really chestnut brown - I think they looked great.

I may even be able to dig up a photo. Watch this space.

Welcome, Amanda. How did you find us here? It seems like we're getting a lot of new members in the last few weeks and it's really great to see.

We'll be watching. We love pictures. I look forward to seeing them. I find it very interesting that you're making your green eyes brown. Look around this site and you will see that most people are covering up their brown eyes, quite often to make them green. I have brown eyes and I like them just fine. I also have brown hair so I think I might look a little strange with blue or green eyes.

Well . . . a little more strange.

Well, I tried to post a photo, but it seems I have to make another 13 posts before that's allowed.

You'll have to keep watching....

Well, here's a thought to use up one of those posts: the photo you might eventually see was taken a couple of years ago now, and I think the prescription was -6 in one eye and -5 or so in the other.

I'd like to get some more opaque brown lenses, but my latest prescription is for -6.5 in the one eye and -5.25 in the other. That's no problem for my regular Focus Dailies, but I can't find an opaque brown lens in -6.5 - anyone know if there is one? (Preferably available from a UK supplier).

Check out the color disposable contacts at Lens.com: http://www.lens.com/contact-lenses/department95.asp. There's a list of color contact brands there, all you have to do is click on the name of the lens and then check the drop-down list for "Power" and see if they come in -6. They way the list is organized you see the high negative numbers first, so you probably won't have to scroll down to see -6. So far I found Focus Monthly SoftColors, FreshLook ColorBlends, and FreshLook Colors. Check that page to see what other brands are available.

That's helpful - thanks.

UK suppliers all seem to stop at -6 - probably they don't keep stock of the higher prescriptions, which, presumably, they won't sell so many of.

Still, their loss is the US's gain - I'm not afraid to order from abroad.

Not the clearest or sharpest picture, but unless you were gazing deeply into my eyes from close range, that's what you'd see in a social setting. And I don't think anyone would know that wasn't my natural colour.

Well, as you now know, I also have brown hair. And my eyes are naturally green, but I always wondered how I'd look with big brown eyes. Now I know. And so do you!

So we finally get to see your eyes, Amanda! That's a nice picture. The contacts look quite natural. You're right, too. I've seen people post closeups of their eyes and of course the lenses look fake. No one's going to look that close, except maybe your eye doctor, but you don't really want your eye doctor to think you've got pretty eyes, do you?
If I were to meet you face-to-face, that's probably how your eyes would look.

It's hard to see your eyes from this distance, but I can honestly say they don't look fake in that picture.

Those contact lenses look very natural, Amanda. One thing I do notice though, is that the whites of your eyes look a little pink in that picture. Do your contacts make your eyes red?

Possibly my eyes were a bit tired when that picture was taken; it had been a long day and I may have been rubbing them.

I'm not used to being asked to post more photos! I don't have all that many, and I'm sure you only wanted to see my eyes, in contact lenses, 'cause that's all this forum is about, right? Maybe I can dig up some more, then. If only to show what colour my eyes are without coloured lenses....

It looks like you're very popular Amanda!

Me personally, I like looking at a person's contact lenses and how they work with their whole face. Like Starwaytoheaven said, if I were to meet you in person, seeing your whole face would be what I would naturally expect. If I was so close to you that all I could see was your eyes, I would probably be too close.

Besides, I like to see a smile, too.

There you go. Off-topic, because I'm not wearing Acuvue Colours Opaques. (I'm wearing Focus Dailies, if that's of any interest, but I don't think you can tell). Happy now?

Wow Amanda. I don't know about the others, but I'm very happy. I know this is a contact lens forum and all, but I have to say that you've got really pretty hair. I'm glad NYGiants asked to see your smile, because it's a very sweet smile.
Maybe now you can have your picture taken with your Opaques in and we can see how good you look with them.

Yup. I went back to look at your first post and it was just to say that you wear chestnut brown Acuvue 2 Colours - Opaque contact lenses over green eyes, and it seems like everybody likes your look.

If you don't mind continuing this thread a little longer, how have your friends and family reacted to your chestnut brown eyes? Has the reaction at home been as enthusiastic as what you've heard here? Has anyone still not noticed?

To be honest, it was just something I tried for a bit of fun a couple of years ago. I never wore them regularly, and I no longer have them (although I'm tempted to get some more, if I can find them in the right prescription here).

It was funny. People who didn't know me, of course, didn't know my eyes weren't really brown. I think I have a few casual aquaintances who still aren't sure what colour my eyes actually are (and it's fun to keep them guessing)!

Those who did know me seemed aware that something about me was different when my eyes were brown, but weren't always sure what it was. New hairdo? Different make-up, maybe...?

So you wore Acuvue 2 Colours - Opaques? Were they uncomfortable and that's why you don't wear them any more?

No, they weren't uncomfortable at all. I didn't wear them very often, and they got a bit old and mucky - I think they're only supposed to last around two weeks of daily wear.. Plus my prescription changed.

For some reason Lens.com doesn't tell you how long you can wear these lenses on the site, but because I'm clever I noticed that Acuvue 2 Colours - Opaques come six lenses to a box, and when contact lenses come six to a box, they are usually 1-2 week lenses. Those you can wear for a week if you wear them day and night, and two weeks if you take them out at night.
Do you still wear colored contact lenses, Amanda?

When I flirted with the coloured lenses, I was really just getting started with contact lenses generally, and I was seduced by the idea of changing the colour of my eyes.

These days, although I've been wearing contact lenses for a couple of years, I'm still bowled over by how easy they are to wear and how good it is to be free of glasses. That's enough for me at the moment, so, no, I don't have any coloured lenses just now.

Now that I'm being drawn back into discussing them, though, I'm quite tempted to get some more...

Perhaps you're angling after another picture with them?

Nice work, Captain Kirk. I'll take another picture.

We've already seen your natural color. Why not get some more colored contacts and let us see how they look on you? Have you ordered from Lens.com yet?

Well, I just looked into it. The shipping cost to the UK makes it not worthwhile; there are UK suppliers whose headline prices are higher, but won't charge me $36 for shipping. (In fact, there are US suppliers who won't charge me that much).

So while I'm tempted to buy a few more pairs of these lenses, I doubt it'll be from lens.com I'm afraid. Of course if lens.com were to read this and offer me free shipping, I'd be delighted to post a photo of myself wearing their excellent products....

Gee, that's too bad. I've read posts in the past saying that Lens.com charges a lot to ship their lenses internationally. Have you compared the shipping costs to other contact lens websites? Maybe international shipping is just expensive in general.

Well... there's a competing website that comes out high in Google searches that only charges me $20. And you have to bear in mind that I might have to pay import duty and taxes on the lenses when they arrive as well (or I might not - Her Majesty's Revenue & Customs seem to apply it at random to small packages).

Looking at the USPS pages, I can see it might cost me $17 to send a few contact lenses from the US to the UK. And if I were a large customer, I might get a discount. So while $20 would be reasonable, I'm afraid $36 is way too much. There are plenty of European suppliers whose prices are as keen, who charge less for delivery and I won't get lumbered with import taxes.

On the other hand, they don't have forums like this one... then again, I don't have to be a customer to use this one, so I gain either way!

If you keep posting pictures once in a while, we all win.

I agree with LittleElvis. Keep on showing us those lenses, that smile, and the green sweater is a nice touch, too.

Well the way I see it, buying contact lenses from the sponsor is a great way to show your appreciation for Lens 101.

Of course, in your situation, I can see why you would want to save money where you can.

Well, you'll all be delighted to hear that I have some more Acuvue 2 opaques, in chestnut brown on the way. You wore me down and persuaded me!
