Angry acuvue 2 suck help?

hello everyone, just registered. lol i was swaying back and fourth whether or not i should but i figure worse that could happen is that no one answers my thread lol.anyway, i recently started wearing contacts about 6 months ago, still fairly new them, so i figure you guys could help me. as you already know I have Acuvue 2 contacts (kinda obvious huh? lol) i have serveral problems with them.

when i wear them for maybe 3 hours or 2 hours i need to start to use eye drops on my left eye every 10 - 15 minutes or it will bother me, it's more of a dry feeling.

also when i wear them for long hours like 8 hours my left eye seriously starts to bother me with the contact on even with eye drops it won't help much, my right on the other hand is fine a little bit of redness though. i thought maybe it was the contact so i threw out the pair and went to my next months contacts but i still have the same problem.

i went to the doc but their no help they just said to clean them regularly and it should be okay, but it'a not. i really wanna wear contacts. everytime i think of wearing them now i think to my self "aww man not again"

i was thinking of switching to oasys, one of my friends uses them and she loves them.

input please, i ran out and I'm using my last months pair.

EDIT: also when i look to the corner of my eye after using them for 3 hours it looks a little blured like the contact was out of alingment or something.

i clean the case regularly after use and i clean them before use, i clean my hands good before i touch them, it just has me frustrated!

Hello new 2 z

Welcome to the forum and I am sorry to hear of your problems.

I don't wear Acuvue 2 lenses but they are made of etafilcon A with a Dk (oxygen permeability) of 28 and water content of 58%.

Acuvue Oasys is a silicone hydrogel lens (made of senofilcon A) and water content 38% and Dk of 103.

This newer technology lens with lower moisture should be less of a problem for drying your eye and will also be more healthy as regards allowing a supply of oxygen to your cornea.

However, I wonder if dry eye is the problem and perhaps you may have some sort of allergy to your lens or more likely the lens solution (if it contains preservatives). Have you tried Clear Care peroxide system which is preservative free?

It is disappointing that your eye care specialist cannot help you with your lens problem.

If the solution change does not help, then a change to Acuvue Oasys or another modern silicone hydrogel lens like Biofinity may help. Perhaps you should also consider changing your eye care professional to one who can provide expert assistance to resolve your problem.

Let us know how you get on.

H i there new 2 z.

I'm sorry that you're having such problems with your Acuvue 2 contacts. I'm glad you decided to stop swaying and sign in.

It sounds to me like you might need to find a new eye doctor. I don't know where you're writing from, but you should be able to find a website in your local area that can help you find someone. When calling to make your first appointment, tell them why you're seeking a new doctor. I wish you well in your search.

While you're making the transition, you might try going to this site: http://www.acuvue.com/thinking-myths-faq.htm#_Home

It's the FAQ section of the Acuvue website and the section here is "Answers About Lens Care."
Under the question "What can I do if my contact lenses aren't comfortable?" the answer is:
" . . . consider upgrading to some of our newer ACUVUE® Brand Contact Lenses featuring our latest technologies and designs."

Unfortunately, many of the questions on this site suggest you ask your doctor, but in your case, maybe you should save your questions for a new one.

I hope that helps. Let me know, okay?

Default Wow, same probs here!

Hey Railfan, I have identical probs as you describe, weird!

I started wearing contacts about 5 months ago, and my first pair were Acuvue 2s. I had no probs in my right eye at all, occasional dryness needing a drop maybe 2-4 hours into wearing them, my left eye on the other hand is ridiculously uncomfortable. Seriously I dread wearing my contacts because no matter what brand ( I have tried soo many!!) or type I have in, it inevitably starts bothering me 30 mins -1 hour into wear with dryness and then eventually a full out hurting and scraping feeling and so dry that it sometimes blinks out if I don't constantly add re-wetting drops.

UGH, I have become so frustrated I've almost given up wearing them. I got some help from another eye doc who flipped my left eye inside out and looked at it with a machine thing, with dye in it and without. He said I had "allergy bumps" under my top eyelid, so I tried different solutions, clear care is best by far for me. Different material contact lens material made a little difference, but not enough really. I have one pair of Colorvue contacts that are the most comfortable, but I've had 4 other Colorvue lenses of the exact same material that were horridly uncomfortable so I don't know.

So far the best help for me has been just short wear times. Once the left starts hurting, I just take them out for an hour or so and then I can wear them again for a few more hours. Everyone's different, so you have to just experiment with what works for you. This forum is a major help too. I would have given up completely wearing contacts if not for all the advice and troubleshooting tips I have gotten here! Good luck, I hope you find some solutions or a better eye doc who can help you find what's causing the problem.

Thanks for the tips, and I'm glad you're feeling better. Keep us posted on how you feel, okay? I hope you just keep getting better and better.

I'm glad you find Lens 101 to be useful. It's nice to know that this site has been a "major help" to you. That's why they're here. I hope the people that run the website get to read this thread. There's a lot going on at this forum, so I'd be very surprised if they get to read ALL of the things posted here.

Thumbs up Yep!

Totally agree!! If not for this forum and helpful people who spend the time to answer all the newbie questions, I would seriously have stopped wearing contacts in the first month of trying them! I have had more help here than from my own 2 different eye doctors. Cheers to the people who run this site and a big thanks to all the veeery active members!

Thanks for sharing your story, julietlilly29. It's just that I'm not the one who started this thread. You may want to wish "new 2 z" good luck too.
Anyway, thanks for that tip about wearing your contacts for shorter intervals--and the kind words about Lens 101. A lot of people use this site, but not many give credit to Lens 101 like you did. I think the people who work so hard to keep this forum operational, useful and informative appreciate a little love.

Don't worry. We get busy sometimes and we get a bit careless. At least you didn't endanger someone, like that numbskull who almost hit me at a stop sign today. He didn't look both ways--like they teach you in kindergarten--before entering the intersection. He took his foot off the gas for a half second, looked the opposite way from which I was coming, and then stepped on the gas again.

Sorry. I'm venting again, aren't I?

Better to vent here than get road rage and vent out on the streets eh? Besides, almost getting creamed is an incident very worth venting over! Now me saying how much it irritates me to wait for a car who acts like it's going to go straight then randomly turns without signaling thereby forcing me to wait overly long at a stop is just sillyness

Thanks for the posting, julietlilly, but we don't want to go off on a "stupid driver" tangent, do we? So let's talk about how Lens 101 has helped you.

Until we hear back for Julietlilly, I'd just like to say that Lens 101 has helped me learn a lot. Especially about contact lenses and sunglasses. For a long time I felt like I was talking to myself, but I haven't felt like that for a while now.

Sort of a guilt trip you see. I've never been very good at them but I'm told they can be very effective.

Maybe the curvature of these lenses do not suit your eyes. Have your optometrist (or go to another one who is better) check your eyes with a keratometer and do a follow-up with you a few weeks later to see how you are doing. The keratometer will give you the proper curvature of your eye.

Then the optometrist can choose a better base-curve of the lens and perhaps a different contact lens material.

It could also be that your eyes need a bit of time to adjust and therefore you should only wear your lenses maximum 3-4 hrs at a time until you start feeling more comfortable with them.

Like others have mentioned, stay away from multipurpose solutions and use a hydrogen peroxide solution like Clearcare. Be careful when using it and follow all the instructions!

That all sounds pretty good, Purplerain. Hopefully someone will find your suggestions helpful, especially new 2 z, who started this whole thread.
