Default Clear Care solution, what to use for short term storage?

I just switched from Oasys to Acuvue 2 due to corneal swelling either from the contacts or the solution. I was using the Replenish solution and she switched me to Clear Care. But what if I take my contacts out for just a nap? I don't want to use the Replenish because that could have been part of the problem with my eyes. I did get regular saline for rinsing. Can I use that for short term storage in a regular case?

I'm pretty sure you can store your contacts in sterile saline during a nap, but multipurpose solution is a better choice. Even if you're just going to take a nap. The Acuvue website says "Always keep your lenses completely immersed in a recommended disinfecting solution when the lenses are not being worn."
Specifically, Acuvue recommends Clear Care, Opti-Free Express, Renu MultiPlus, Renu MultiPupose, Complete MPS Easy Rub, Aquify and Unisol Saline.

That's always a good idea, cleyes.

Unless your contact lens fitter routinely does this to you:

The OP was told to stop using MPS. Eye doctor thought there might be an allergy issue.

How can you possibly think MPS is a better choice for the OP? your post makes no sense.

I'd get a bottle of saline. If available,CIBA saline is a good choice.

I didn't see anything from hbwright that said that he or she was told to stop using multi-purpose solution. There was no mention of allergies either. Are we reading the same thread?

It seems like you are one of many silicon hydrogel contact lens wearers who have problems with multipurpose (MPS) solutions. According to staininggrid.com, their research indicates that silicon hydrogel lenses absorb the biocide more than conventional hydrogel lenses (e.g. Acuvue2, Proclear, etc.). You are better off using a hydrogen peroxide disinfection regime over any MPS with any type of lens imo.

If you are taking your lenses out for a nap, I would suggest disinfecting them and leave them in there overnight and if you need to use contacts for the rest of the evening or are going out of your house, put on a fresh pair of 1-day throwaway lenses in the interim. Your eyes will be feeling fresher and will thank you for it over the long-term.

Hi SandiStix, I just read a lot on this subject since there are so many lenses and solutions on the market nowadays it can get confusing. I read all the contact lens user guidelines from top-to-bottom and all the fine print. Then I search for product recalls and other info about lenses that manufacturers may not want us to know.

I think choosing the proper disinfection solution is also critical to contact lens enjoyment.

If you check out my introduction post I talk more about my history with lenses.
