Yes, Acuvue 2 contacts are technically FDA approved for overnight wear, but they got approved for "extended wear" in the mid-90's before the FDA got pickier with that designation. So you're right. The FDA changed its rules for overnight use of Acuvue 2 contacts. That doesn't mean the FDA is wrong, or bad, it just means they re-examined the evidence and found that they needed to modify their recommendation.

I have been wearing Acuvue 2 contacts for years now, and I saw a question about wearing them overnight, and whether it is good.
Personally, I found that it is not good, my Dr. has also confirmed this. Blood vessels in your eye can become enlarged as your eyes strains for oxygen. Additionally, keeping any potential dirt or other airborne debris trap under the lens for lengthy time periods cant be good. Just a thought... |
