The only time I have slept in them is when I have fallen asleep and forgotten to remove them. I never intentially fall asleep in them because my eyes dry out way too much and itch like crazy in the morning.

That's a good idea, eddiemonster7. That way you won't find yourself feeling sleepy and tell yourself "I'm so sleepy, but I can't take my contacts out because I don't have my case. I guess I'll have to sleep in them."

You've got a point, Anazak. If your case is handy you'll be more likely to take them out before falling asleep.

However, it's okay to sleep in Acuvue 2 contacts for a week. What happens if you've only had them in for one day and you find yourself unable to sleep in your contacts? Does anyone have a suggestion?

I would recommend giving your eyes a break for one night and sleep without them. If you can wear them all day comfortably, I don't see why you couldn't sleep with them in. Of course, these are meant to be slept in. Don't try this with daily disposables.

There are a few on this site who say that you should never sleep in contact lenses. What do you think of that?

there was a discussion with an optometrist on this site who quoted many specific issues relating to overnight/extended wear. His conclusion was that under no circumstances should one sleep with one's lenses or wear them for extended periods (i.e. longer than a day) of time otherwise you increase your chances of getting severe eye infections, etc by a factor of 4-5x and if you take occasional mishaps (i.e. sleeping with your lenses in once-in-a-while) out of the equation, that figure increases to a factor 10-15x. You can find this precise information at jnjvisioncare.com and click on acuvue2 and then click on fitting and patient management guide pdf. You will find this information at the very end of that booklet.

[Sorry I can't post any links 'cause the system doesn't allow me to post until i've made my 15th post.]

Thanks, that's good to know. Does this surprise anyone? I'm not surprised, and that's only because I read it here on Lens 101 before.
