I heard that Acuvue Advance is being discontinued. Anybody confirm or deny?

I'm not saying that's the final word on the subject, I just couldn't find anything when I searched. |

Hi there. My sister works for a contact company and i asked her this since my doctor gave me a sample of the Accuvue Advanced. She said they are discontinuing the Accuvue Advanced but keeping the Ac. Advanced Plus. So there must be a difference between the two.

I've never heard of Acuvue Advanced Plus, though. How long have those been around? |

I will find out and get back to you after i ask her. She works for Cooper vision and Accuvue is their competitor. So when i told her they put me in Ac. Advanced she was shocked since she told me they were being discontinued.

Acuvue lenses are going away. You should buy Coopervision lenses from now on. How was that? |

![]() A number of lens mfg are deleting a number of their older, less popular lenses. I don't know if Accuvue Advance is one such lens. You have no idea. It's certainly possible an employee of a competitor might have an idea. Accuvue Adavance and Accuvue Advance Plus are made of the same material and have the same water content. I wouldn't be surprised if one got deleted |

Introducing ACUVUE® ADVANCE® Plus. This innovative lens features HYDRACLEAR® Technology** for exceptional comfort and is made using our new ULTRA-CLEAN™ Technology that actually helps resist the buildup of deposits on the lens. And, since you use a new pair every two weeks, there's even less time for that stuff to stick around. Plus, a 24-lens package makes it easier to get your annual supply at an affordable price. I couldn't find anything that told me how long they've been around, though. Maybe someone else can help with that. As for materials, both hare made of galyfilcon A, and Lens.com says that both are 47% H2O, so they appear to be the same lens, but the Plus lenses have that ULTRA-CLEAN™ Technology thing going. |

J&J has 2 nearly identical lenses. Doesn't sound silly to think J&J willl drop the older lens. |

Strange. In that picture the countdown clock is at T-15 minutes, but the service structure is still surrounding the shuttle. I wonder why that is? They usually retract that several hours before launch.
Sorry. I'm geeking out again. Catch you later. |

It might just be a combination of two pictures taken on different days. |

acuvue advance plus has a higher concentration of Hydraclear, their proprietary internal wetting agent.
|
|

I guess that extra wetting agent is the "plus" part then.

Not to turn this into a space shuttle forum, but in 1995 the space shuttle Endeavour had a launch abort at T-1.9 seconds due to "the discharge temperature on MPS Main Engine #3 High Pressure Oxidizer Turbopump (HPOT) exceeded its redline value."
|

I hate it when that happens.

from personal experience fitting my patients with acuvue lenses with the hydraclear agent.....I have noticed a few things.....patients that have dry eyes, the hydraclear agent causes rapid protein buildup. they are tighter fitting lenses. and finally can cause a non moving lens that is stuck..
does anyone have this experience? |

Yeah, like the Colonel's Secret Recipe of eleven herbs and spices.

HYDRACLEAR™ is the "science" inside this lens... a remarkable moisture rich element that acts as an internal wetting agent at the surface and throughout the interior of the lens resulting in exceptional long lasting comfort for our patients. Does that help at all? You know, even if a list of actual ingredients is actually given, they would probably have names like "hydrosolicomethylethylsufaliminide." So what good would that do? They probably invented some new ingredients too, and they would have names like "SoftygenTM" or something. |
