I have just decided to try contacts for the first time in 7 years. I had them in high school- but they irritated me so bad I could not wear them. I figured that after 7 years surely things have changed! lol I have extremely dry eyes and I guess sensitive as well...... The Dr. at first put me in fresh look toric- HORRIBLE -- after 3 or 4 hours i felt like there were sandpaper in my eyes and they were beet red.
long story short he gave me Oasys and air optix to try and see if they would be better. So far I have the oasys in and they are soooooo super comfortable and great- but I am having some halo's and some focusing problems when I go from looking at say the tv and then at the computer screen. Is this normal? will it go away after I get used to them? have any of you tried the oasys and air optix? which were better for you? Sorry this is so long- I am new to all of this again and just want to be comfortable and buy cute sunglasses that aren't prescription~~and be able to see with the contacts!! LOL any advice you have will be great! Thank you!!!! |

I'm sure someone else will come a long and give you better answers, but I just want to make sure someone responds to your question. I'm glad the Oasys are more comfortable for you. I'm thinking that the halos and focusing problems might just mean that you're still getting used to the new lenses. I did a little research and I found out that sometimes a person who wears contact lenses may see halos if their corneas are swollen. This is a possibility if you're still getting used to new contacts. Try waiting a few more days and see if it gets any better. If not, talk to your eye doctor again. I know that's probably not what you were hoping for, but I hope it helps somewhat. Keep us posted on Lens 101. We want to make sure you get better, okay? Don't make me come back here in two months and say "I wonder what happened to Nessa131?" ![]() |

Hey! thanks for the reply- I have to tell you the weekend was not so good as far as contacts go---- My husband and I decided to go on a short trip- I was able to wear the oasys for about 5 hours and they started really bothering me.... so I took them out before i had real problems..... I am going to try the air optix and see if they do any better------- maybe I am just not meant to wear contacts.......

ok so I have learned that there is something in the oasys that i was reacting to - so I tried the air optix or the o2 optix- I'm told they are the same thing..... and I am able to wear for 10-11 hours. My eyes are extremely tired and sometimes gritty after that long od=f e=wear but i'm doing good.
the only problem I am having is these darn haols!!!!! most always i get them right at first but after a little while they settle down. Any idea what causes this? the lens moving or air under the lens? hanks in advance! |

The only other explanation for halos I found was swelling of the corneas due to either not being used to new lenses or from wearing a single pair for too long. Would any of these scenarios apply in your case? |

nope- no surgeries or anything-- maybe halo's are not the right terms..... like when they show an angel or something on tv they have like a bight glow around them... something similiar to that maybe with a small amout of double vision-- I don't see 2 of the object- just like half of it with the bight haze.....
Sorry I am terrible at explaining things! and don't ever ask me for directions!haha It mostly just happens when I first put them in-- but if the day goes on and they get dry or just some eye gunk from wearing them a while - it happens.. Does this heppen to anyone else??? or am I just odd...... ![]() P.S. You guys are so great on here! |

![]() I posted a picture in another thread where you asked about the halos. I think I know what you mean. It's like a glow around things like lamps and headlights, is that right? You don't see the halos around dark objects, just lights, right? Do you know how to post pictures here on Lens 101? Maybe you can do a Google image search, find a picture of this effect and post it here. |

If you're not wearing them for too long, then maybe you need a contact lens that allows more oxygen circulation. You'll get it figured out, just be patient and use your detective skills to sort this thing out. |

![]() Is that what you're talking about? If not let me know and I'll try and find something better. In the meantime, just relax and keep in touch with your eye doctor and we'll get this figured out. Oh--and how about posting a picture of yourself modeling that "super cute pair of pink Oakleys" you mentioned? Lens 101 has a section just for Oakley Sunglasses, did you know that? http://www.lens101.com/oakley-sunglasses.html |

Yes this it it!!!! What in the world causes it? I ended up going with the air optix- but i still tend to get very irritated several hours into it-- so I wear my glasses most of the time- due to it just being easier on me!

Let me give you a sneak preview. In this thread, ikon says "Halos usually are related to optic zone size, overall diameter and pupil size. Normally excessive halos are solved by increasing the size of the lens." As far as the Air Optix lenses go, are you sure it's not just a matter of getting used to a different brand of contact lenses? Have you had to adapt to different brands in the past? |
