This is my second day wearing Acuvue Oasys for Astigmatism lenses and I'm really afraid I don't like them.
I wore contacts for many years in late teens, early 20s. I don't remember having a hard time getting used to them. I started wearing glasses when I realized how much better/clearer/cripser my vision was with the glasses versus the contacts. At that point my astigmatism wasn't bad enough to need/be able to correct with contacts. I tried toric lenses a little while later (I think I tried the PureVision) and they were comfortable, but I didn't like how they'd rotate out of focus sometimes. So, I went back to glasses. I tried RGPs last year, but never could get used to them, so went back to glasses. Then, just a couple weeks ago I read about the different design of the Acuvue Oasys for Astigmatism with the weights on both sides and how it is supposed to reduce rotation and got excited. But, my eyes are just so uncomfortable!! Is it that I need to just get used to contacts again? I find they're just as uncomfortable as the RGPs were! I remember years ago putting in a contact and going "ahhhh" and just feeling comfort (if anything at all!) so I'm thinking this just isn't right. That they're not going to work. The eye dr looked at my eyes and said they were a good fit, even though I said they weren't very comfortable when I initially put them in. Are there other torics in a new design that don't rotate out of focus I can try that might be more comfortable, or should I just go on back to my glasses?? I think I had tried the Focus Dailies torics many years ago and remember those being very comfortable, but I couldn't afford them. Are they still the old style, weighted just on the bottom? Thanks, Laura |

So it seems that you've tried various different brands of toric contact lenses, but kept going back to your glasses. The latest ones you tried were Acuvue Oasys for Astigmatism. Those aren't comfortable either, even though your eye doctor said that they fit well. Does that sounds about right? Toric lenses have sections that are slightly thicker so that they don't rotate, but obviously it's not working for you so far. I've never seen your eyes, nor am I an expert on contact lenses, so I really can't give you a useful suggestion of another brand. Probably the most conservative course of action is to keep trying with the AOfA; give them a little more time. Sometime toric lenses can be tricky and need some extra attention. Maybe you can try to wear them for a few days and see if they at least start feeling a little better. Then maybe a few days later they'll feel even better. Soon you'll forget you have them on. Let us know how it goes. |

Yes, other contacts I've had (and worn for years), besides the RGPs I tried last year, they would instantly feel comfortable. I don't ever remember having an issue getting used to them. I put them in today, but only wore them for a few hours. Its just too uncomfortable. I find myself squinting the whole time they're in.
I'm going to call the eye dr and see if I can get a trial of something else. I'm not sure what other kind would be better. I'd do the focus daily torics if I could afford them. I remember having a trial pair of those a long time ago and loving them. They're just too expensive. I've been reading that a lot of people like the bioinfinity, I think it was, more so than the oasys, so maybe that will be one to try? If I can't find a pair that are comfortable, I'll just end up back with my glasses. Does anyone know if there are any other toric lenses that are supposed to be more stable than the ones with just the thicker/weighted area on the bottom? Quote:

I checked Lens.com and found that Acuvue Oasys For Astigmatism is made of a material called senofilcon A, and the only other lenses made with that same material are Acuve Oasys and Acuvue Oasys for Presbyopia, but neither of those are made for astigmatism. Maybe someone else can be more helpful to you. |

I went back to the eye dr today. I told him these things just are not comfortable at all. He had me try Cooper's Avaira toric lenses. The instant I put them in it was the "ahhhh" feeling I remember. These things are incredibly comfortable. Doesn't feel like I have anything in, which is what I wanted. Now my left eye is good, but they didn't have the right one for my right, so it is blurry. They're ordering me a trial pair in the right script, so those should be in a week. He had asked if I just wanted to go ahead and order a box or if I want a trial pair. Of course I want a trial pair! But, I have high hopes now.
These things are so moisture rich and fit so well, I actually had a really hard time getting them out! They want to just slip right back into place. I think I found my lens! I'll update after I've worn the trial pair for a week or two. I'm not going to wear this pair, as that right eye is just too blurry. |

Huh, just reading while I don't feel like working. I thought about asking our optomotrist for a trial of the dailies for my daughter. She tried the oasys and we have a whole 3 month supply sitting unused. I was angry with her until I tried them and believe I may have an allergy to them. I tried and tried and after 3 days couldn't open my eyes they were so painful and sensitive. It made me wonder if she could have the same sensitivity and maybe you do to. Of course I felt so bad that I was pushing her into not wasting them and told her I'd never pay for a contact fitting again. Woops. So, she is going back this week and I may ask about the Avaira if they are still fitting comfortable for you. How are you liking them now?

They had to order a trial pair of the avaira for me as they didn't have the right rx instock. the ones they gave me felt really good, but the right eye was just too blurry to wear, so I haven't worn them. they haven't called yet to tell me they are in, but it has been a week now. I'll call today to see if they're in. But, they were really comfortable. I have high hopes, for sure. I remember the dailies being really comfortable, too, but that was many years ago. Thats nice about the dailies is not having to clean or store them, and getting a fresh pair each day. But, they're so darn expensive! The avaira lenses seemed really comfortable for the several hours I wore them, and they didn't ever rotate out of focus, which was one of the main reasons I stopped wearing contacts several years ago. I'll post again once I've worn the trials for a week or so. Good luck to you and your daughter. I hope she finds something comfortable. I say keep trying different kinds until she does - you paid for it!

Oh gosh, no. I got a trial of them for me. I should have made that clear. She has astigmatism and while I have a very slight one on my right eye it's not even worth correction. Hers wouldn't fit me at all. Lol

That's the thing about these forums. If there's any chance someone can misunderstand you, they will. At least JoeyRossChandler asked for clarification. Remember boys and girls, don't ever wear anyone else's contact lenses. |

Hmm, I love my Oasys. I can wear them for days on end with no issues at all. Even when I wake up in the morning, they feel like I have nothing in.
