Default A couple of questions from a noob

I recently had to get glasses for the first time and decided, especially with the summer here, I would like to use my sunglasses and still see clear. So naturally I decided to get contacts.
After dialing in my script with samples and a few follow ups with the Dr., I placed my order for my contacts, Acuvue Oasys for Astigmatism. When they arrived yesterday it was time to change them out to a new pair. Long story short something was wrong. My left eye was blurry for hours. The contact was seated correctly in my eye, but it was not clear like the sample pair. I tried another one from the same box to no avail. I also opened my other box, lined up the "hash marks" at 12 and 6 o'clock and still blurry. I called up where I ordered from and 2 new boxes are being sent, but my question is, "What happened, and does this happen often?"
Also is normal to have difficulty seeing properly with these contacts at night or especially in movie theaters. I keep experiencing strange glare, it'll go away but quickly return. Sorry for such a long post

Welcome to Lens 101 Guinnessfan.
The thing about Acuvue Advance for Astigmatism is that they're "toric" contact lenses. That means that have to be on your eyes a certain way, hence the hash marks. Sometimes it takes a while to get used to wearing toric lenses. That may also explain why you have trouble at night. Give it some more time, and if things still aren't good, inform your doctor and let us know about it.

I wear contacts for Astigmatism and have really had no problem at all.
As soon as I put them in I could see. My asitmatism is slight....-100 and -75 but I can certainly tell the difference if I use regular lenses. I have tried many types and so far PureVision have been the most comfortable and easy to put in.
I also have Presbyopia and have tried a strange thing that is working. My distance vision is only a +1.00 and the ad is 2.25. I purchased contacts one with a 2.25 for left eye the other a 2.5 for right eye......I put them in and I can see very well to read computer screens.....my job.......but can comfortable see distance??? My eye doctor says that is not possible and just pfttt me but I can easily drive with these lenses and also see to read. Had Monovision contact before....25 left 2.25 right....were no longer working but new ones work great. Just a thought for you.

How did you buy contact lenses with a different prescription than the one your doctor gave you?

My doctor gave me a paper scrip and I just ordered on line and made a change to one eye. I did ask my new eye doctor if it would hurt my eyes and he said no. I moved and only just went to the new Optometrist last week.

So I'm guessing that they contact lens company you ordered from called your doctor to conform the change to your prescription, right? I hope the checked with your doctor, just in case you made a mistake, you know?

I would not want to do business with a company that would sell me a pair of contact lenses without confirming the details with my doctor. Like mamcita said, I might have made a mistake when sending them my prescription, or I might even be tempted to try and buy contact lenses that aren't right for me because they're cheaper or a nice color or something.

To each his own. I let the pros do what they need to do and I just stay as the end user. As long as my OPT is good with it and I am getting sent what I ordered then I am good with it. I have used this company for many years and they know what they are doing.

As long as your doctor knows what's going on and if he or she is cool with it, sure. I don't see a problem with that.

Yeah, just make sure your doctor is in the loop.

Well, good. At least you checked. You've got to be careful with things that touch your eyes.
