I finally decided to switch to contact lens. I have very little astigmatism in my left eye and moderate in my right eye. Right:Cyl -1.25 180 Left:Cyl -.75 170. The problem is the contacts I've tried, Oasys and Proclear Toric, hasn't produced vision as comfortable as my glasses did. The doc has tried these at different prescriptions too.
Night time vision is bad eg. stop light and head lights produce double vision. Working with computer screens is pretty bad too, right from the beginning, and it's consistently bad throughout the day. I work in IT and am in front of a computer 8 to 10 hrs a day, so I need to get it right. It's all blurry. Any thoughts on what my doc should try next? |

Yes I've only tried 2 brands so far. My wife's been wearing contacts for years, however she doesn't have astigmatism. Why is it that the brand doesn't really seem important to her vision? She just gets whatever seems like a good deal to her. Is the brand relevant for me only because it's astigmatism?
I have an appt tomorrow. My doc seems pretty annoyed already since it's my 5th visit and I'm still not happy. But I paid her $140 fitting fees, so I shouldn't really feel bad about this. I'm wearing my glasses and it just makes me realize how bad my contacts have been. |

Your doctor has been trained to fit contact lenses; it's her job. I can see why it might get a bit frustrating to have to fit contacts for one patient over and over again, but like they say, that's why you pay her the big bucks. I wish you well, and I hope you find some comfortable contacts soon. Let us know when you do. |

Yes. They even have a special name for contact lenses made to correct astigmatism. They're called "toric" lenses. They have one edge that's thickened so that part always stays at the bottom, behind your lower eyelid.
