Acuvue bifocals were my lenses for 10 years, 2.00+ and 2.00+ add.
Recently changed to
Acuvue Oasys for Presbyopia for greater oxygen permeability, in 1.50+ and 2.50 add. Despite being thicker and bulkier, the Oasys lenses are much more comfortable. In fact, once inserted, I do not feel the presence of Oasys lenses at all. The only confirmation that they're in is excellent vision. However, in the prescription above (sorry if I inverted add and reading) my distance vision is a bit better in the old Acuvue Bifocals.
Oxygen permeability would seem to be a virtuous attribute, and I can attest that while I do not intentionally sleep in lenses, upon accidental snoozes, the Oasys lenses do not dry up the way the BiFocals did.
Now, a word about cleaning solutions. Through years of experimenting with different brands of saline, including multi-purpose solutions, I have come to the conclusion that old-school Hydrogen Peroxide solutions may be fundamentally better than those products containing preservatives, and other chemicals which may cause allergic and other adverse reactions. I'm talking about the 3% HP solutions that require 6 hours in a special platinum neutralizing case (basket). Rubbing is optional but recommended. Oasys lenses may have a penchant for holding more protein deposits, according to many reviewers. I would definitely suggest switching to H.P. solution if the lenses are otherwise good, i.e. providing good visual accuity.
