Default Some experience about Oasys

Hi everyone,

I have been using oasys for well over 3 years now.

However, about a week or so ago I noticed that a pair of my oasys started to go foggy or cloudy after taking them out of the case.. Strange I thought but meh I said keep using them.. they were only one week old and I had taken them out at night as I prefer not to sleep with them..

So the next day I woke up after wearing them with that cloudy appearance(vision was still fine) after disinfecting them and the next morning I wake up and serious redness in my left eye. Not good and it felt like something was in there but nothing actually was.. So I went to doctor and had chlorosig given to treat eye infection.

Moral of story be wary of these contacts when they go cloudy...

I for one have given up on them. I have tried several solutions and they still start to fade or go cloudy after a week or so some batches more than others...At first( a few years ago) they seemed great but lately the don't even last a week or so....

Anyhow, I am now on FocusNightnDays and they don't suffer from this cloudiness effect at all. Actually I have a pair from 2 years ago and they are still clear as glass in refreshed solution(replaced every month) which tells me they are built from a polymer which lasts...

So I think I will stick with the Focusnigthndays for now for extended wear and use Acuvue 2 for day to day.

I really am addicted to the Acuvue 2 which are so not there it's not funny they are that good for comfort. Furthermore, taking them out and placing them in the case I saw this amazing ribbed effect on the outer edge of the lens amazing...

As always YMMV and probably will with variations in everyone's unique cornea refractiveness.

Hello XLR8 and welcome to the forum

Sorry to hear about the problems with eye infection and cloudy lenses.

What contact lens disinfection system are you using.

I favour the hydrogen peroxide systems (particularly 2 part ones) which give good disinfection. Unfortunately 2 part peroxide systems only seem to be available in Europe and not in the US.

Strange that you should suddenly start to have this problem. Have you changed anything, suppliers, routine, etc?

Hi Knotlob,

Yeah using Aosept other countries different brand I think.. Hydrogen peroxide solution so it definitely is not the disinfectant.

The cloudiness is not the first time it has appeared.. It looks to me that these lenses are very poor in the longevity area..

Hope this helps others...

OK XLR8, thanks. It is surprising that the Aosept peroxide is not killing the infection in the lenses, unless it it some sort of fungal infection, which can be more difficult to control.

I think you should contact Johnson & Johnson and ask them to examine the lenses. They should also be interested in this customer feedback. They should be able to determine what the cloudiness on the lenses is and perhaps how to eliminate it.

It will be interesting to see if other forum members have experienced anything like this.

This post had a couple of surprises for me. First of all, I didn't know that a person could get a fungal infection on their contact lenses. Is that a common occurrence? How can contact lens wearers avoid such infections.

Secondly, I was surprised to read that if you have a problem with your contact lenses clouding up, you can send then clouded lenses back to the manufacturer for analysis. Do you have any advice on how to go about doing this? Do you need to package the contacts a certain way or anything?

I have heard of fungal infections but I don't know that they are so common (hopefully not).

I have never had occasion to send contact lenses back directly to the manufacturer (though I have had apparently defective vial lenses replaced by the manufacturer via my optician).

XLR8 is reporting an unusual problem of cloudiness, which doesn't seem to be responding to peroxide treatment and that in itself is strange & unusual. But it seems that the Oasys lenses are becoming unusable before their anticipated life has expired. As I said, I would discuss the problem with Johnson & Johnson and hopefully they would agree that this is not normal. They should give instructions on how to return the lens and probably the unused lenses back to them for examination, which would contain the production batch data codes, etc. on the packaging

I know there have been posts here where a manufacturer has requested apparently faulty lenses to be returned to them for examination and any manufacturer with a good Customer Aftercare Service should certainly be willing to help.

That's probably a better idea, knotlob. Take the defective, possibly fungus-infected contact lenses back to your optician for a replacement, and let him or her take care of the rest.

The Optician should handle the issue if the lenses were bought through the optician. But XLR8 has been wearing lenses about 3 years, so may have bought the lenses via an On-Line store.

I buy a lot of other things via Mail Order so if I have an issue with the goods in use, I don't think twice about contacting the manufacturer's technical people for advice and take it from there.

That's true. It's funny that someone who was logged into a forum sponsored by a company that sells contact lenses on line would forget about buying contact lenses on line. I guess we can blame it on being Monday.

Yeah, Monday. That sounds plausible. The venerable Monday Plea.

Hopefully, for the sake of the sponsor, lots of people will buy their contact lenses on line.
