Having concerns so far with this set of contacts. I started out with RGP lenses that were mulitfocal. That was very difficult to get used to and the vision was poor. After several return visits it was determined that I had LENTICULAR astigmatism as well as the already known near and far visual errors, and I was told that multifocal lenses would not work for me. So the challenge began. He advised trying monovision lenses. I tried the soft toric Acuvue Oasys for Astigmatism but the 1st Rx was not so good. Everything past 5-10 feet became blurry and driving was difficult since everything in the distance was double and reading was not sharp either. So another pair was prescribed and distance was made sharper and reading was sharper but the intermediate zone is now blurry. Now I also notice that many things just get blurry after a blink. With lubricating eye drops it helps to improve sharper vision but not for very long. He said we can consider monovision toric RGP lenses. My question is will the monvision toric RGP lenses fit and perform better than the toric soft lenses that I have now. The soft lenses I'm sure will be more comfortable to wear but the constant blurred vision is not going to work out in the long run. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

However there are numerous choices for a toric multifocal prescription in an custom rgp lens. Suggest a multifocal toric fit to your ecp....! Im not crazy about monovision with my patients. Proclear and Frequency lenses have expanded ranges for toric multifocal fits suggest that for another soft lens option. |

Hi and thanks for your reply. The current pair of Acuvue Oasys for astigmatism was 'custom ordered' for my particular problem. The original pair were trials and were 1/2 a diopter off of my error. He just wanted to know if I could deal with monovision. I've had this second pair for 4 days and I find that vision is almost always blurry in my left eye (distance). It seemed to be sharper on the 1st day, but then after that I find that most every thing is out of focus. There is no amount of blinking that will get the lens back into focus. Is it true, that mulitfocal toric RGP lenses are not going to work for me since the astigmatism is lenticular? That is what I was told.

ANY slight rotation will skew your correction.....Precision fit in your case would be recommended to be fitted with a custom mulitifocal bi-toric RGP lens with a prism ballast. There are fantastic newer materials now that are super wettable, comfortable, and can be worn long periods due to hyper high dk...Boston XO2, menicon alpha, floroperm 151 are examples of these newer materials. PS> my pro point of view.....im not a big fan of monovision. Ask your eye doc about rgp options. They do require more skill to fit btw. |

Thanks very much for your reply. It is very encouraging as I was disappointed earlier today with a friend telling me the best I can expect is good distance correction with contacts and reading glasses. He's an optometrist as well.

Advise your opto that there are currently great and newer options for a multifocal toric fit in an rgp lens.

I would be curious to hear the response given by osroubek's doctor to this.

The next suggestion was to try a front toric, back multifocal rgp lens since I was just not having an adequate 'monovision experience' with the soft mono vision lenses. Due to lenticular astigmatism and NOT corneal astigmatism this seemed to be the only idea left. Ideas, comments?

Wow, I've never heard of a configuration like that. Those sound like expensive contact lenses to me.

Does anyone have a picture of a toric multifocal contact lens that shows the different segments? The only one I found had lots of other stuff labeled like the "peripheral zone" and the "anterior slab-off zones." Can anyone find something simpler and post it here? |
