Default to swap lenses?

Hello,
Lateley I complained that my vision started to get worse.
I went to the eyedoctor and she stated that my lenses are way too strong.

I have 3 unopened package Acuvue Oasys in -5 (BC = 8.4) which contains 6 lenses each pack, and one opened which contains 5 lenses.

I also have 2 opened packages of Acuvue Oasys in -5.25 (BC=8.4) and they together contain 8 lenses.

I have one opened package Acuvue Advance in -5.25 (BC=8.7)
It containts 5 lenses.

Personally I use -4.75 (BC8.4) now but -4.50 would also be fine.

Does anyone have left oasys 4.75 or -4.50 and would like to swap them for my -5.00 and -5.25 lenses?(I live in Holland) If not,

Does anybody knows a charity foundation that collects onused lenseses for poor people?

Greetings from Nicole

Hello Nicole/womanHolland. Welcome to Lens 101.

I've seen questions like yours on this site and the answer is always the same. If your prescription changes and you have lenses in your old prescription, then there's not much you can do. I'm curious to know how you got lenses that were "way too strong." Has it been a long time since you last had an eye exam? Did you buy those strong lenses from someone other than a doctor? You said "Personally I use -4.75 (BC 8.4) now but -4.50 would also be fine." Did your doctor tell you that -4.50 lenses would be fine?

I don't know, maybe they do things differently in Holland than they do here in the United States, but here you can't get contact lenses without a prescription. Nor do charity organizations typically take personal items like contact lenses. Maybe someone closer to home can be of more help to you. Sorry I couldn't do better.

Thanks for your reply. I used to go to the hospital, there worked an optician who used to check my eyes. However due to cut backs, the optician was not allowed to work there anymore. Looking back, she was always done in 5 minutes :S Or maybe after she left my vision improved but I don't think so.

I went to a real doctor because I suffered from dry eyes and my vision got worse. She stated that I should wear glasses in -5.25 and lenses either in -4.75 or - 4.50.
I went to a store where they sell glasses, they also stated that the prescription for my glasses is -5.25.
In Holland you can by lenses either in a optician store and also at some drugstores.

Do you need a prescription to buy contact lenses in Holland? I hear you can get all kinds of stuff there with no questions asked.

Yes, you definetley can buy lenses without a prescription here...
Indeed overhere they sell more things you can buy without a doctor's prescription, weed is probably the most famous along them.

Interesting. My first reaction is to wonder if people are suffering from a lack of direction over there. Do a lot of people wear contact lenses in Holland or do most of them wear glasses because they've had miserable experiences with contact lenses in the past?

I have no idea but there are many people who wear them. Most people go to the optician stores. I think there are many good optician stores. They are also responsible for the prescriptions for the glasses so they have lots of experience. You can also ask them to check if your intraolcular pressure is not too high.

Hmmm . . . so are some countries too careful for requiring a prescription for contact lenses, or are other countries not careful enough for not requiring one?

I suppose it would depend on where the website is based. Lens.com is an American contact lens company, and you will need a valid prescription to order contact lenses from them. They will even call your doctor to confirm.
