Thumbs up I think I've had almost every problem listed, but found "solution!"

Hi all,

New to the forum but I had to register and say "THANK YOU" because switching my solution from multi-purpose (I'd tried more than one kind) to Clear Care (with hydrogen peroxide) has changed everything for me. I hope that others can find this information by Googling the way I did 2 days ago.

I have worn soft contacts of various types for 25 years (yikes!) and I never had a problem until recently. I've been using multi-purpose solution for at least 5 (maybe 10 or more? when did that come out?) with out any problem until about a year ago. I had blurred vision from contacts that would not stay hydrated, red painful eyes, extreme light sensitivity, and eventually foggy vision even with glasses due to mild cornea damage (which healed in both eyes). I attribute this now to the reaction to the solution which made my contacts so dry that they hurt my corneas due to not floating on the eye they way they should. This happened in my right eye over the summer and my left eye this past fall. I really missed jogging and playing music with contacts in. (It's hard to see the conductor when my glasses slide down my nose!)

I had almost given up but came here to see if others were allergic to Acuvu Oasys and saw someone post about having no problems after switching to Clear Care solution. I bought some yesterday and successfully wore my contacts for 5 hours (much longer than I could tolerate in recent months) and am wearing them again today with no dryness or pain. I have the Acuvu for astigmatism and they float so the weight is in the right place right away. I followed the directions on Clear Care and didn't even need another product to rinse afterward. I threw away my contacts that had touched the multipurpose solution, all old cases, and what was left of the old solution. With a new pair that have only touched Clear Care, my problem seems to be gone! It seems that one can develop an allergy to these chemicals over the course of time until you can't tolerate it at all. I hope this helps others.

That's great news, contactslover. Thanks for telling us your story. You don't have to read very far on Lens 101 to get the impression that Clear Care is good stuff.

allergy to the preservatives in MPDS products is quite common and can happen all of a sudden even after years of using the same product.

Clear care is one of the best for senstive eyes because the solution is non preserved after the disinfection and neutralizing cycle...

I did read online tho that peroxide can interact badly with lenses soaked in a chlorhexadine preservative.
I am not sure if its chlorhexadine or chlorhexadine derivatives?

SO as a general rule i recommend using new lenses with a solution or care system change.

Were Eye Care Professionals and not chemists so were not privy generally to the chemistry of care systems but I do like to keep up on the information!
