I just found a post on another site that asked about Acuvue Oasys contacts "chipping on the corners." First of all, how can a round contact lens have corners, but more importantly and mysteriously, how can a soft contact lens chip? I'm hoping there's someone reading this who has experienced this "chipping" and can tell me more about it. I'm very curious. Thanks.

I have had a great deal of trouble over the last year with chipping on my Acuvue Oasys lenses. Just about 1 out of every box of 6 and sometimes 2 have a tiny chip out of the edge of the lenses. Sometimes it is to tiny that although I look them over before putting them in my eye, I don't see it. However, that chip will rub on the whites of my eye and raise a welt. I have written the manufacturer, Johnson and Johnson twice, and I get little to no satisfaction. I have worn Acuvue for years and am extremely disappointed not only in the quality control of late but the companies response to my problem.

That is exactly what I am doing. I have another eye appointment tomorrow. Once again I have an eye infection from the welt that was raised up when the last pair of lenses I put in was chipped. Being diabetic, I can't afford eye infections, or any infections for that matter. Although these lenses are made to sleep in, I don't because I'm diabetic. It is just very disappointing that after years of wearing Acuvue lenses that I can no longer count on the quality I have always relied upon.

I, too, can confirm the "chipping" of Oasys lenses. Within the past 18 months or so, quality control for Acuvue Oasys lenses has apparently lapsed. If the lenses do not have the "chipping", then it often develops within several days (< two weeks).
Additionally, just this past weekend I picked up a new box of lenses from Costco. As I have written about before (http://www.lens101.com/acuvue-oasys/126959-long-time-user-oasys-notice-any-change-lens-comfort.html), I have noticed aggravating comfort issues and degraded visual acuity. For those interested, I have test numerous lenses and have currently settled on the Biofinity as the closest alternative. The comfort is comparable to the Oasys but the visual acuity is much better. I am very disappointed with J&J for releasing "defective" Oasys lenses. They have a wonderful product and should just increase prices rather than reduce quality. |

I propose a slogan: "Biofinity contact lenses: Won't Chip, Won't Rip
