Default Blurry With Both Eyes, But Not With Just One

I was reading about a guy who got a new prescription with his Acuvue Oasys contacts. He had been happy with them up until the prescription change. The he began to notice that his vision was blurry unless he closed one eye. It didn't matter which eye, as long as he had one eye or the other closed he could see fine.

I know that isn't very much information, but I'm just curious as to why he couldn't see well with both eyes together.

I am actually having this exact problem right now. But the thing is my prescription with Acuvue Oasys has been just fine, but I just hit my last two lenses and right when I put them in I got this exact problem. Any suggestions would be wonderful, I have 2.25 in my right and 3.0 in my left.

Good question, Garfield21, and it's one that I'm not qualified to answer. Perhaps the person you read about has an issue with making both eyes work together. Kind of like crossed eyes, sometimes called "strabismus".

I'm afraid it's more likely to be a contact problem since I for one do not have strabismus and this only occured when I put in a new pair of lenses.

Yeah, I guess if there's only a problem when contact lenses are being worn, then it must be something wrong with them. Unfortunately this looks like one of those "friend of a friend" issues and we likely will not know the end of that story. Hopefully this thread will help someone else.

Yes hopefully this can help someone else. I just fixed this problem and all I needed was new contact lenses so there must be some kind of problem with some of the Acuvue Oasys that cause this or something I did wrong in putting them in.

I'm glad you got the problem fixed Sindorius. Sometimes a defective pair of contacts come off the assembly line and are missed by the quality control people. Maybe that's what happened in your case. I'm glad your story has a happy ending, though.

This sounds like the same Acuvue Oasys issue from this thread:

www (dot) lens101.com/acuvue-oasys/126959-long-time-user-oasys-notice-any-change-lens-comfort.html

Based on my personal experiences with the Oasys, I think that Johnson & Johnson is experiencing some quality control issues in their lenses. Lately, 1/2 or more of the lenses in each box are uncomfortable, permanently folded in half, or have very poor correction.

Wow, you're having trouble with half of your Oasys lenses? That's too many. Have you contact J & J?

Yes, I have. They have been very helpful regarding to replacement lenses. Unfortunately, the replacements exhibit the same problems...

Well, at least they're giving you good customer service. Do you think you might try a different brand of contact lenses?

Yes, I have tried a few others, but, the Oasys is still my favorite. I made a few comments about it in this thread:

Is your issue like the one that started this thread? You can see well with one eye closed while wearing Acuvue Oasys lenses, but when you open both eyes your vision is blurred?

No, the vision/comfort in both eyes was bad. The parallel between this thread and the other thread could be quality control issues (ie, one good lens and one bad lens could result in the aforementioned condition).

Here is my situation:

What's the latest, Finbar? Are your Acuvue Oasys lenses behaving themselves now? Have you given up and switched to a different brand?

Has anyone else experienced the problems that Finbar describes here? Namely, "1/2 or more of the lenses in each box are uncomfortable, permanently folded in half, or have very poor correction"?

Hopefully we'll get no replies on that question. Either that or people saying '"Oh, no. I ordered from Lens.com and everything was great."

I'd like to hear some stories about ordering from Lens.com, come to think of it. I want to know if Lens 101 readers are happy with the sponsor.

That's a good idea, Garfield. I only wish I'd ordered from Lens.com. Maybe I'll try it someday.

It's been only a few weeks so far, but at this point there's been no reports of people getting mangled Acuvue Oasys lenses from Lens.com.
