Question Mono Vision vs MultiFocal

Hello, I'm new to this board and new contact lenses as well. I started out with the Mono Vision lense and had trouble getting used to distances so they tried me on the Multi-Focal lenses but couldn't get my Rx correct so I'm back to wearing the Mono Vision lense which I'm getting more and more used to so I'll probably stay with that. I'm just wondering how other people have done with the Multi Focal lenses vs the Mono Vision lense. Would appreciate any and all thoughts/experiences with either type for my own comparison. Thanx

Smile Monovision vs. multifocal lenses

Hi, I started with monovision and a friend suggested I try multifocal and I was curious, though I had no problems getting used to monovision. I can say I personally prefer the monovision arrangement for several reasons. First of all I should add that I had no problems with monovision but I still have a new pair of progressive lens glasses and I just can not see right when I use them! I am having a hard time adjusting to progressive lenses and suspect the multifocal contacts are the same concept. Anyway the monovision arrangement is less expensive than multifocal lenses, there are a huge variety of products to select from and I feel with more selection one is more likely to come across the perfect lens for one self. Finally you have the option of trying colored contact lenses which do not exist in a multifocal lens as far as I know. Trying colored contacts is just a fun thing to do! But the multifocal lenses are definitely more expensive than regular lenses and I went to a daily disposable lens which took care of my issues with too rapid build up of debris on my contact lenses. Dailies are great for me, a fresh new lens every day! I have read most folks do adjust to monovision 80% I believe so persistence might be the answer for you too.

That's good info. Thank you! I've been having an issue with not being able to see out of my lense by late afternoon or early evening and I kept thinking "what is up with this?". But after reading your comment I'm thinking that I'm having a 'build up' issue as well.?. Can I just order any type of contact I want to try as long as I have the script? Such as a different brand? I did not know this. I'm such a newb!

Default monovision or multifocals?

When I was first given a prescription for contact lenses I thought one could just try what ever brand one wanted and apparently the law is that a prescription for lenses must be specific stating the brand, base curve, diameter which would mean no, one can not just try various brands. An optician told me they could order or get any contact lens I wanted with my glasses prescription in hand and opticians know how to interpret or modify the rx for glasses into contact lenses. Now I have had another visit with the MD who gave me another prescription and he said "This is a rx for glasses but the optician should be able to convert it into contacts for you" The professional in the office who fits one for contact lenses is usually an optician as well. So I can not say what every optician in every state would say but if you take your regular prescription for glasses into an optical shop I believe based on my experience they are legally qualified to fit the patient for contacts. My optician will get me any contact I care to try (within reason! It must be suitable for my eyes of course) I doubt an online service could do that because they do not have you the patient in front of them to fit and see how things are going but if you take your rx to a local place my guess is that it is perfectly legal and they are trained to fit you for contacts based on the information on that prescription.Sorry so long!

This is all such great info. Thank you so much for your reply. At least now I can go back to my opthamologist and ask some viable questions regarding my issues and perhaps now he'll be able to understand what the heck my problems are! I didn't know anything about protein build up so I didn't even know to ask if this could be the problem. I have been using the Clear Care product about every other day on my lenses and it seems to help but by half way thru the day my vision is blury again. Now I can ask him if protein could be the problem and can I try the daily lenses.
Thank you!
