Default Acuvue Oasys and Gooey Eyes

Why would someone's eyes immediately get sticky and gooey as soon as they put in Acuvue Oasys? Could it be the cleaning solution?

Not their solution, its the Hydraclear. It attracts lipids (fats) from your tear film and makeup. Its better in OASYS than ADVANCE, but the problem is still there.

I thought Hydraclear was the bee's knees. Anything else we should know?

My eyes are really gooey too. I was up in the morning and they are almost stuck together. ( I don't sleep with them in) It's horrible I'm going to switch to something else. Probably Focus dailies.

Hi littleartist. Have you switched contact lens brand yet?

Hey, do you still wear glasses sometimes? There's a section here in Lens 101 about glasses I think you'd find interesting.

It might just be that you have an infection in your eye. This happened to me after about 3 months of using Acuvue Oasys. It was like my eyes had pink eye. I went to the dr and got drops. Coudn't wear the contacts for about 1 week but once my eyes cleared up they were fine with the contacts again.

It's nice to hear a happy ending, sunshine4. Thank you for sharing your story.

What's Hydraclear, fschultz4is? Is it something in the lenses themselves?

Hello sunshine. Can I ask how this infection came about? Was it from the contact lenses?

What's new, littleartist? Do you wear Focus Dailies now, or have you sorted out your Oasys contacts?

I'm curious too. I've heard that a good percentage of people cant wear them due to an allergic reaction.

Now, an infection is different from an allergic reaction. Allergies are when your body reacts as though there is an infection when there is none. I'm sure there are incidents of both with contact lenses.

So your eyes were sticky after a night of NOT wearing your contacts? If that's the case then maybe the Oasys contacts are not to blame for your morning stickiness.

So are you telling me that there are lipids (fats) in makeup? Do you find that ironic?

How are you doing, littleartist? It's been almost a year since we've heard from you about your sticky eyes.

That is kind of ironic, seeing that Western society insists that women do all they can to look thin and beautiful, and then they put fat in makeup. Yeah, there's irony there.

Where did you go, littleartist? Did you start wearing Focus Dailies or have you made your peace with Acuvue Oasys contacts?

We may never know littleartist's fate. We'll just have to wait and see if we find any signs of life.

Default Hydraclear Explained

I feel like this thread is just a bunch of loops. I guess it's time to answer my own question and explain what "Hydraclear" is.

To find the answer, I went to good ol' Google, which then led me to Acuvue.com. That's where I saw this entertaining little video about the wonders of Hydraclear. It's a coating they add that increases comfort and oxygen permeability. Watch the video for yourself:

A very informative video clip. I learned that "lubricity" means "smoothness."
