Hi patresh. You've stumped me. I don't know what "+0.00/mid +1.75" means. It kinda looks like a prescription, but I've never seen "mid" in a prescription before. Are you sure that's a prescription for contact lenses?

That is what it said on my contact box. So i called the acuvue number, and they were in a meeting and the message said that someone would call me back, that never happened, so there was an email address that you can email your questions too. So I emailed and asked to have someone call me or explain what thoses numbers meant on the contact lens box, they are suppose to be for bifocal lens, but i didn,t really understand them, and i explained that i didn,t want to call my doctor, as his staff makes me feel stupid. Their responce was contact your doctor.
So, basically with these lens i can see up close, but no mid range or distance vision. If however i wear a distant vision in one eye, and the bifocal in the other eye it works , but i was hoping for bifocals in both eyes since the doctor gave me two trials to try.

So those numbers were on the box of contact lenses? Were there any more numbers? I'm used to seeing a contact lens prescription that has three sets of numbers. Something like -2.00 -0.50 180.

Thank you
Hi Patresh. Thanks for including the name of your contact lenses. Now we can finally explain your prescription to you. Thanks to the others that helped get to this point.

Okay, here we go. "BC" is for "base curve." Think of your contact lens as a bowl. Now imagine exaggerating the curve of the bowl until you have something like a round goldfish bowl. That's an extremely small base curve

Now imagine going the other way and reducing the curve until you have a plate. That's an extremely large base curve.

"Dia" is the diameter of the lenses, or the distance from one edge to the opposite edge.

Since these contacts are for presbyopia, they have an extra measurement called "add" which could be Low, Mid or High. In this case it's Mid.

That should do it. Any more questions?

Thank you for that information, however, the+0.00/mid is the real question. And does that mean that i would not have any distance vision, because i don,t. i have really good close vision.

Again thank you

Hi patresh. I saw your question here and decided to see if I could help. The Internet wasn't much help in defining what the "index" of a lens is. Questions like this tend to be answered by semi-informed Web surfers, but here's a quote from an Eye Health website "High Index - A lighter, thinner lens material offered to those with very high prescriptions."

So it sounds like a high index lens is a very strong one. A mid index one, not so much. So . . . your prescription is a base curve of 8.4 millimeters, a lens diameter of 14.3 diopters, +0.00/MID index and an add of 1.75.

No, the mid add does not mean that you won't have distance vision. According to lensshopper.com "add" is "a prescription added for reading or close-up seeing for those with bifocal [or in your case, multi-focal] lenses." So the add helps you to read more easily.

thank you for that information. I am still trying my trials and they are Biofinity multifocals, i finally called my doctor. Sometimes there is a tiny blur, but it seems if i wear them everyday, they work better. i am wondering if anyone has ever tried them and if they are pleased with them. They seem to work, pretty well. When i read tiny print, i have to move my head in different directions ,like to the side .

Is that something you can live with, or would you rather go back to the doctor's office--several times if necessary--to get rid of that tiny blur?

I hope that they don't think you're a pain, patresh. As long as you're polite and respectful, they should be happy to do what they paid all that money to go to school for--to help people like you see better with the help of contact lenses. If they don't want to help you, then maybe you should find someone who does.

Yes, i will my appt is aug 3, so i will not know anything until then. I was hopeing to have some alternatives, as they do not carry biofinity, and the attendents comment was if this doesn,t work, that would be it. But i will keep you informed.

Boy, that's not very good customer service. You said "they were in a meeting" when you called. Who was in a meeting? The entire company? The whole customer service staff? That must have been some meeting.
Going back and reading the thread, the latest issue seems to be the "tiny blur" you mentioned. If that's the only concern you have right now, maybe you should just try to ignore it until you see them again in August.

Fair enough. I hope we get some good news from you after your August appointment. You may want to write down your questions now so you'll be ready when you see the doctor.

That's a good idea. I've gone in to my doctor's appointments with a list of questions and he didn't seem to mind.
