Default Air Optix Aqua contacts

Hello everyone!

I have a question regarding contacts I purchased. I noticed that they are making my eyes sore and when looking closer at the contacts I realized they had numbers directly on the contact. Is this normal? They are Air Optix Aqua contacts.

Hi Wanda. Welcome to Lens 101.

Are you sure they're Air Optix Aqua? At first I thought you were talking about an "inversion mark." Many contact lens companies print "123" in very tiny numbers so you can tell if the contact lens is inside out, but according to www.optix-now.com Air Optix Aqua do not have this inversion mark.

Strange.

Have you found out what those numbers on your contact lenses are, Wanda?

Yeah, have Air Optix Aqua contact lenses started sprouting inversion marks?

I guess we'll have to wait for Wanda to respond. Are there any other kinds of numbers that are printed on Air Optix Aqua contact lenses?

Acuvue-now.com says the same thing. No inversion mark on Air Optix Aqua. They are probably sister sites.

It's been just over a year since Wanda's one and only post. I guess she really didn't want to know about those numbers.

Maybe Wanda has had her question answered and is now living a happy and successful life, no longer sitting for long periods of time trying to think of why those contacts have numbers on them.

I think Wanda's glass is half full.

You know, it would be nice if Air Optix did have an inversion mark, come to think of it... Seems like it should be standard, really.

Do most contact lenses have the inversion mark? It may be a copyright thing, you know? Only Johnson & Johnson have the mark or something. The inversion mark is definitely a good idea. I don't think anyone would mind of they came on every contact lens out there.

It sounds as though JohnGalt wouldn't mind, Pathfinder.

I should update my previous comments - the Air Optix Aqua Night and Day's I purchased a little over a month ago do have inversion marks. There is a very small CIBA, followed by some numerical digits, and around the lens, near the opposite edge, is a larger "OK". Both are quite difficult to see when the lens is wet.

It is possible I missed it on my first pair, or that it wasn't there on the samples given by the eye doc.

Thanks for the update. This is the first I've heard about the inversion mark being hard to see when the lenses are wet. That's an interesting observation.

Can you still see the numbers and letters printed on the lenses, even though you need to have those lenses in your eyes in order to see properly?

I can personally, FirstDown - but I have a very mild prescription. It's possible others might have a little more trouble. As noted, the marks are very difficult to see after taking the lens out of solution, but as some of the fluid comes off of it, the marks engraved on the lens become much more visible.

I always thought it was odd that in order to make sure your lenses are not inside out, you need to find a teeny-tiny mark. Problem is, some people need contact lenses in order to see teeny-tiny marks.

Yep, it is a bit humorous. Particularly for those that lack near vision.

I guess that's when you ask your spouse or a friend to help you.
