Default oh no, wrong dominant eye in monovison

I was prescribed monovision a couple weeks ago. Tore one lens lasts week and got Air Optix on Tuesday. I tried driving last night and couldn't see more than 30 ft ahead of me. I saw comments about adjustment period, etc. When the Dr originally gave me the lens for a dominant eye he asked what hand dominant I was and being right handed he said I would need the dominate eye for the right eye. I have since have done the self test and low and behold I am left eye dominant. I took my lens out tonight and got one caught in the case and cut the right lens in half..ugh. Anyway does anyone know if that would be the reason I couldn't drive at night and my vision wasn't as good as I would have liked at a distance? My guess is yes. I am getting so frustrated with failures with multifocal lenses and now this. My next appointment is Tuesday as he is on vacation this week so I don't think anything will be resolved until then. I will be calling though and let the office know.

Looking over your post, it seems that either your eye doctor should have tested you to determine which eye is dominant rather than just assuming it's the same as your dominant hand, or your self test is inaccurate. Maybe when you see your eye doctor again next week you can get this resolved. Please let us know what happens.

Yes, I should have been tested. I guess after trying to drive at night and not seeing more than 30 ft in front of me I knew there were issues. I did the self teast multiple times. I did the one where you look at a distant object and make a triangle with you finger and close them until the object is in the zone. Closed my right eye, (looking with my left it was still centered. Closed my left eye so my right eye was looking and moving over a huge amount. From what I can tell I did it correctly.

You mean this test?

Extend both hands forward of your body and place the hands together making a small triangle (approximately 1/2 to 3/4 inch per side) between your thumbs and the first knuckle.
With both eyes open, look through the triangle and center something such as a doorknob or the bullseye of a target in the triangle.
Close your left eye. If the object remains in view, you are right eye dominant. If your hands appear to move off the object and move to the left, then you are left eye dominant.

To validate the first test, look through the triangle and center the object again with both eyes open.
Close your right eye. If the object remains in view, you are left eye dominant. If your hands appear to move off the object and move to the right, then you are right eye dominant.

Yes, that is what I did...I am left eye dominant(opposite of my dominate hand) He prescribed me for right eye dominate. No wonder my far site was bad...anything over 10 ft was not that clear(day or night) I had just thought it was getting used to contacts. Now I know I was prescribed wrong.

Well, let's hope they get it right next time.

I wonder if most people have a dominant eye on the same side as their dominant hand? Maybe that's the assumption that your doctor made. I hope you can get this taken care of.

Yes, it was an assumption that he made. I did a little looking around on the web and the stats are it holds true for 2/3 the population. But the remaining third are not. That is a huge number to count out.
The receptionist phoned him while he is on vacation and I was instructed to discontinue the ones he had given me.

Yeah, you're right. If it were 9/10 or something like that I could understand, but 2/3 is just a little over half.
