Talking Help With wear schedule

Hi Guys !

I'm new at this forum and to contacts, i've been wearing glasses for almost 3 years, i have astigmatism, also i suffer allergic conjunctivitis. About 5 month ago i went to my eye doctor because i wanted to try contacts, he prescribe me Acuve Oasys for Astigmatism, i could not use them for more than 3 days my eyes where very irritated and uncomfortable.

I went back again to my contacts store here in Chile, because here is were i live, and they offered me to try the Air Optix for Astigmatism, they are the best that i've tried, very comfortable lens. Some times i feel like dust or a strange body in my eye for about half and hour, but after that i'm fine.

Since i'm on vacations here in the US, i bought the year supply in 1-800 contacts for US$110, 4 boxes, in Chile they are $380, awesome price for me.

Now here is my question i've very confused with the wear schedule, i know they are monthly 30 days but if i sleep with them for the maximum allowed limit that Ciba Vision says (7 Nights) will they last the month ? My eye doctor told me that i could use the schedule that suit the best for me. What schedules have you guys been using ? I want to make them last the 30 days.

1-800 Contacts told me that i could wear them for the 7 nights but i have to take them for my Eye Health only after the last night, but i can continue with the same lens after.

Thanks for your help.

Happy New Year !

Well, I have been able to wear my Air Optix Astigmatism lens for the full 30 days. I do not leave them in for 6 nights (maximum is 7 DAYS and 6 NIGHTS) since I'm not comfortable with leaving a lens in for days at a time without cleaning it. As a nurse, I can't make myself leave them in for more than 3 nights at a time, then they gotta come out and take a bath at night. LOL! You can reinsert the same lens for up to 30 days after cleaning, they will generally last for a whole month unless you tear a lens.
Happy New Year to you, too!!!!!!!!!!

I've never heard of lenses that can be worn for 30 days but only 7 nights. That seems like it would be hard to keep track of. I don't know how long those lenses are designed to be worn. I wish they were called "Air Optix For Astigmatism Two Week Lenses" or something, but that would make a long name even longer. Maybe if Lens.com put toric lenses into their wear time category instead of their own "Toric" category. Do you think that's a good idea?

Do your lenses feel like they need to be cleaned after three nights, or is that just your own particular neurosis?

I do notice increased dryness after 2-3 days but I believe it is mainly my own personal neurosis. LOL! I am a nurse and leaving a lens in for extended periods - can't get myself to do it...........

I would imagine that in your line of work you see a lot of . . . unsanitary conditions.

I guess that's better than leaving your lenses in for too long.

Thanks for the info !

Also do you guys know if the Clear Care case can hold the 2 bottles of the pack, because Ciba Vision says change the case after one bottle, but here it comes only one, and they don't sell just the case anymore.

According to a ciba rep, the case is good for both bottles. I asked and they offered to send me travel sized bottles for free just in case I break one of my cases. Received 2 travel bottles with case and a 12 oz bottle with case for free.

Great ! How did you contacted them, email or phone ? Check this picture of the back of the AOSEPT case instructions, they say their case can hold 90 days or 100 use, and Ciba Vision says 2 bottles, it's very strange since they are the same cases and product from the same manufacturer.

Yes they are monthly lenses! They can be worn continuously for 6 nights, clean and rest for one day and continue on until you've worn the lenses for 31 times!

But keep this in mind only wear overnight if your eyes have been checked ok, as not all eyes can tolerate overnight wear even with silicone hydrogels!

Happy New Year. Thank you.

Typically contact lenses that come six in a box like Air Optix For Astigmatism are 1-2 week lenses. This means that if you wear them overnight they can last for a week. If you take them out at bedtime, they will last for two weeks. Of course, your doctor has the final say about how long you can wear your lenses.

The more you wear the lenses, the faster they wear out. A monthly extended wear lens
may not last a full month for some people. If they irritate you or cause any issues, make sure to replace them even if it hasn't been a month yet.

It's always a good idea to ask your eye care provider rather than a forum.

I agree, and I noticed that a lot of posts say the same basic thing as NYGiants said "Here's what I think, but make sure you check with your doctor about it."

Me, I'm definitely not a doctor.

I agree with that. A lot of times, I end up replacing my lenses after about 3 weeks instead of 4, which is fine with me, I do not want to switch to a different lens as I like the AirOptix. Also probably won't stop using them overnight, so I guess I'll have to live with the early replacement.

I sounds like the early replacement is working out okay for you, cxwatts.

Yes, it is. After about 3 weeks, they get uncomfortable and dry so I replace them and they r fine after that. Works for me. Sure, it's a little more expensive but I can live with that. I like the lenses, they r a lot less floppy than other lenses and won't fold over during insertion.

One doctor told me that sometimes can be worst if you take them out every night, because at more manipulation more risk of infection, just be careful of having always your eyes lubricated with drops, and for me since i have very dry eye and allergic conjunctivitis would be better, but i still prefer to take them out every night.

My doc told me that i should tried the best schedule for me so i've been removing them each night. I thought they were monthly lenses, acording to Ciba and 1800 contacts, like one sales agent of 1800 told me, you can wear the same lens the hole month but every 6 nights take it out and give your eye a rest and also to clean the lens, i've read same opinions here.

I've heard that, too. While you're handling your contact lenses there's a chance that you could contaminate them.
