Default Air Optix Night & Day Aqua For More Than a Decade?

Does anyone here have over ten years of experience with Air Optix Night & Day Aqua? Does anybody know if they've even been around that long?

I don't know about that, thecure. I couldn't find any information about how long Air Optix Night and Day Aqua have been around, but it seems like they're pretty new. The way I see it the long name gives it away.
First came Air Optix. Then CIBA Vision introduced New and Improved Air Optix Night and Day--contact lenses you can sleep in! Then they wanted something that sounded soothing and comfortable, and so they came up with Air Optix Night & Day Aqua.
Sounds pretty good, huh, but in the absence of any information about the history of Air Optix Night & Day Aqua, I just made all that up.

Before they were called Air Optix Night & Day Aqua (which, if you ask me, is just a waste of good letters), they were CibaVision Focus Night & Days. I've used them for almost 8 years. They're awesome. I'm on my last set. I would buy 2-3 years supply at a time. They're branded as monthlies, but I've actually had them in for several months at a time. They are the most comfortable contacts I've ever worn. After being able to wake up every morning & see perfectly for weeks on end, you sometimes forget you are even wearing contacts.

Unfortunately, they decided to make this "new and improved version" sometime around 2009 (coincidentally, it was just after I had purchased my last batch), and when I went to reorder, I found these new Air Optix had replaced the Focus.

I read that they have made several changes since they were re-branded, but unfortunately, most of the anecdotal reports I've seen say they are nowhere near as good as the old Focus Night & Day version.

Hi Astral. Your reply brings up a few questions. First of all, is your eye doctor okay with you wearing your monthly lenses for "several months at a time"? That sort if thing is inadvisable without medical supervision.
Secondly, what have you been doing for contact lenses since Focus Night & Day lenses were "new and improved"? I'm asking that because you only said that you read about the changes, and so I was wondering if you'd experienced them yourself.

So are you going to try the Air Optix lenses?

That's the real test of comfortable contact lenses, isn't it? You can sleep comfortably in them and even forget you're wearing them. I wonder if people forget about them in the first few minutes after waking up?

You're right, Eyeofthetiger. Although some people have said on this forum that you should never sleep in your contact lenses.

I've had them for years too. I was recommended them for the oxygen they let through as its now 25 years of soft contact lens wear. Lost count of how many years but I'm very pleased with them.

Default A Decade

When I saw the title "Air Optix Night & Day Aqua For More Than a Decade?" I was hoping that someone wasn't asking if it's okay that they've been wearing the same pair of contact lenses for ten years.

That's good to know, Pandy. How many different brands have you worn over the years. If you've worn one pair for 25 years I can't imagine that you wore any other kind for very long.

Hiya, do you know not sure what I wore years back, soft contact wise. It was monthlys then and I think Ciba? Really can't remember. I first had contacts when I was 18, I'm 43 now! I've worn the Night and day for a few years now, think they had'nt been out long in the UK. Like I said on another post, put them in, forget you even wear them, job done. I think thats when you know you've found the right lenses.

"Put them in, forget you even wear them, job done." That's a good way of looking at comfortable contact lenses. If you can put them in and forget about them, then that's a good thing.

So you've stuck with soft lenses all this time. Have you ever considered RGP lenses? I'm not trying to sell you anything, I'm just curious.

Hiya. To be honest I've never really looked into RGP lenses and the optician never mentions them. I suppose I'm happy with what I've got and only tend to think about it a few times a year when I go for check ups. Thats why this forum is good, might see what RGP lenses are all about, next time I have an eye check up.

I hope you'll stay in touch and tell us about that eye doctor appointment. In the meantime, I bet you can answer some more questions on this site.

Default The change they made is a big one.

I tried the Air Optics after the eye doctor insisted they are the replacement for Focus Night and Day, and even though I didn't want to after what I'd read here, the pressure was great from the eye doctor to try them myself.

After having a horrible time with them, I had kept them in the case and ended up trying them one more time later on, after doing my extra cleaner job on them. I wore them for a day, and took them out at night, and they didn't bother me much, and I thought maybe the cleaner trick would work on these too.

The next day, I decided to put on Focus Dailies instead and they were bothering me horribly, like I had scratched corneas or something. (This was a new in box pair, btw!) I took them out at work as my eyes were burning and watering like crazy and red besides. I threw them away but am sure I didn't need to do that, and realized it was not them that was the problem, but that my eyes were messed up from trying to wear the Air Optics the day before.

I wore glasses for around two or three days and went back to Focus Dailies with no problems after that. They are not perfect, but they are not too bad considering my current alternatives, which are (a) wreck my eyes with Air Optics, (b) wear glasses every day, (c) take even more time to see the eye doctor yet again so he can tell me any other options he has, after he has declined to tell me about anything at all except these two options, and after too many visits already.

Life was simple before, why can't the eye doctor realize if life isn't simple now, the problem isn't ME, it's the CONTACTS.

If anybody wears these Air Optix Night and Day Aqua and has a positive experience, that would be interesting to hear, not that it makes anything okay for anyone else.

I would warn you, though, IF THEY BOTHER YOU, do not let your eye doctor convince you to keep trying to wear them, you can do more than temporary damage to your eyes with this product.

My eye doctor tried to tell me to switch to Opti-Free Replenish solution, that it was the solution not the contacts. I tried this, and was not doing good with this solution even with the Focus Dailies. I now use either Kroger multipurpose solution or Revitalens, and I also have some Bausch and Lomb, but with any of them, right before putting the contact lens on my eye I clean them again with saline solution. PLAIN saline solution, and I am finding the Kroger works fine (some stores don't even seem to carry plain saline solution anymore.)
______________________
(for those that didn't read my other post I will add my 'special cleaning method' is this: )
-- clean lenses with six or so drops of daily cleaner with a more or less equal amount of hydrogen peroxide, clean for more than 20 seconds with this stuff;
-- clean with multi purpose solution;
-- put them in the case to soak (for me it's always at least overnight.)
-- clean with saline after getting them out of the case to put in the eye.

I'm lucky to have had no trouble with these lenses. I use Tesco soft lens solution, All-in-one, and it does say (only recently looked) that its suitable for Silicone Hydrogel lenses. I just use the little rub, store in case/solution and rinse with saline.

Good, I'm glad you have a simple routine, Pandy. Did you pick it up pretty quickly?

Hi, yes, I think the less you have to do the better and then you tend to stick to doing things right. I never got on with the peroxide system and now having the monthlies makes life much easier. Its hard to think years back you wore the same lenses for months and had to get the protein off them.

Sounds like that Tesco stuff is working out well for you, Pandy. That's a store brand of contact lens solution, isn't it?

Hi, yes. I've also used Asda/Walmart own brand soft lens solution. I should think most major supermarkets sell their own brand and I can't see it being any better or worse than more expensive branded ones.

Yeah, in many cases the store brand has exactly the same ingredients as a national brand, but less expensive. You pay extra for the familiar name.

Yeah, I like to hear good news from time to time, and I find a lot of that here on Lens 101. It's not just a bunch of complainers, which is a good thing.

Yes they have been around for about 12 years and cibavision was one of the original companies to launch a high oxygen permeable silicone hydrogel lens.

Unlike high oxygen transmission rgp lens materials, this is the ONLY silicone hydrogel soft lens with the highest O2 transmission out of ANY soft contact lens available.
