Multiple births drop in test-tube pregnancies
New research suggests the number of multiple births, may be dropping for women who using test-tube technology. Researchers at Boston's Brigham and Women's Hospital found that between 1995 and 2001 the average number of embryos implanted dropped from four to three per each attempt. And during that time, the number of triplets or higher multiple births declined from 11 to seven percent. The study says the decrease is due to technical advances and new guidelines for in-vitro fertilization
Eyesight correction while you sleep
Australian researchers develop a new
contact lens that can actually fix far-sightedness while a patient sleeps. The lenses work by applying gentle pressure to the cornea, which then slowly reshapes the eye and corrects vision. The
contacts cost about $900 dollars a pair.
Beer drinkers risk gout
Men who are moderate drinkers could increase their risk of one type of arthritis, and what they drink makes a difference as well. Researchers found that men who drink beer are 50-percent more likely to develop gout, the most common form of arthritis. But there is no link between wine drinking and increased risk. Scientists say alcohol increases production of uric acid which can settle into joints causing inflammation and pain.
