Local doctors are reacting to a strange eye fungus striking patients across the country.
As 13 News first reported two weeks ago, Charleston Doctor Walter Ramsey attended an emergency meeting about the fungus. Now he's back in town, and he's pulled Bausch and Lomb's 'Re-nu' contact solution from his stock. Some of the 109 reported cases involved the product. Ramsey, though, isn't convinced the solution is the problem. Instead, he encourages proper eye care when it comes to contact lenses. Ad "For goodness sake, do not wear disposable lenses longer than their intended to be used, that is the number one contact lens complication in North America, people extending the use of disposable lenses longer than their recommended life," he said. If it's not caught early enough, the fungus can cause blindness. Bausch & Lomb has stopped shipment of the product. Wal-Mart and Walgreens have pulled the product from their shelves. But overall, only 20 of the 109 people infected were using 'Renu.'
