Hey, so I've been wearing contacts for years and I always stuck to Acuvue 2 lenses. I just got my eyes checked today and my optometrist let me try Avaira, so far I like them. My question is for those who wear them, are they just as good as Acuvue 2 or better?

Hello Basil and welcome to the forum. I have never worn Acuvue 2 or Avaira lenses, but the Avaira should be much better for your eyes as the lens material is 3 times more oxygen permeable than for the Acuvue 2. i.e. the Avaira lenses should let more oxygen flow to your corneas and so are more healthy.

That is probably why your optician has allowed/suggested you try them.

Hi basil. Welcome to Lens 101. Thanks for telling us about your Avaira contact lenses.

So what do you think? In your own experience, are the Avaira lenses as good as the Acuvue 2 or better?

Thank you. So far, I think Avaira lenses are better than Acuvue 2. When I was wearing Acuvue 2, I would usually have to put eye drops in my eyes once or twice a day because my eyes would get dry. So far with the Avaira lenses, I haven't had to do that. However, I can say Avaira lenses are just as comfortable as Acuvue 2.

Cool. Nice to hear (Or would that be "read"?) that Avaira contact lenses don't require eye drops.
Did you know that Lens 101's sponsor--Lens.com--is now selling Avaira contact lenses? Their prices are pretty good usually. Check it out and see if you can save some dough. http://www.lens.com/contact-lenses/lens549.asp

Well so far they don't. I've only had them for almost a week, but yeah so far no eyes drops have had to been used. Do you know if they sell the lenses cheaper on the site than they do at WalMart?

Wal-Mart does sell Avaira contact lenses, but they do so through 1-800 CONTACTS, which is a competitor of Lens.com. (Boo! Hiss!)

I checked the prices, and they are very close. If you buy two boxes from Lens.com it will cost you $23.95 per box and $27.49 per box from The Other Guys. Buy three or more boxes per eye from Lens.com, and they will cost $17.50 per box. The more you buy, the more you save!

I switched from Focus 1-2 week Visitint. I had been needing drops more in the past few years and was experiencing blurriness on long days.

I switched to Avaira based on a recommendation by someone who works at my ophthalmologist's office and wears them. I'm now on my second month, I've been keeping each pair for two weeks (had been replacing the Focus 1-2 week Visitint's on a weekly basis) and they were comfortable the entire time.

My eyes are never red when wearing Avairas even on long days. They are also easier to handle and clean then the Focus 1-2 week lenses which had been ripping more often over the past 4 years despite my experienced and careful handling.

My vision is much clearer with Avairas, I work with computers, it's been great not needing to use drops to relieve blurring.

It sounds like your friend at the ophthalmologist's office gave you a good tip on those Avaira lenses. It might be worth a little something in their Christmas stocking this year.

How long did you wear those Aviara lenses before you were able to go all day without red eyes?

When I first switched over I wore them 4 hours the first day and added 2 hours more each subsequent day until I reached 12 hours (taking them out when home from work). I did that for about two weeks and then started wearing them until I went to sleep which would be 16 hours. I noticed at that time that my eyes were more comfortable and white instead of bloodshot like they were at that point when wearing Focus 1-2 week lenses.

Thanks for doing the comparison, Building63. It's good to know that Lens.com can stay a step ahead of their competitors with lower prices.

I'd better stop before I sound like a commercial. Buy all your contact lenses from Lens.com, folks.

Oh, and drink Pepsi while you're watching Wayne's World. Party on!
