Default Avaira - The Importance of a Proper Fitting

I think there may be some people out there who want to take shortcuts with their eye care. They think they can buy contact lenses without having them fitted by an eye doctor. Who here can tell them from personal experience how important it is? Are you part of the "boy, I'm glad I got my fitting done" category or the "I sure wish I had these contacts fitted properly before I bought them" camp?

Gee,
I feel dumb. I thought you had to get a proper contact lens exam with fitting to get contacts??? I've always had a lens fitting and it's definitely worth any extra cost! I have a slight astigmatism in both eyes, but not enough for a toric lens. My doc fitted me for my Avaira's (all my trial lenses too), and i'm glad she did. My bc changed a bit, and so did my diameter. I LOVE the way mine fit! There is nothing more annoying than to have a lens rolling around in your eye, or stuck to your eye like a suction cup

Thanks for that tidbit of information bettydaviseyes...(love that song)!

I don't know why you feel dumb, redraidermommy. It looks like you did everything right. I most cases a fitting and exam are done in the same visit, but not always. As long as an eye doctor was in on the process, you're way ahead of those who try to buy contacts without seeing a doctor.

Oh, and I love that "Betty Davis Eyes" song, too. I haven't heard if for a while though. Every time I hear it I'm transported back to the 80's, which was a good time for me.

Well, considering I was born in 80' (jan), and LOVE the 80's, I love that song! I consider myself an 80's lady, even though I was just a child..... To this day I listen to the 80's and both my older two daughters LOVE the 80's as well! It makes cleaning the house more fun! I also love classic rock, blugrass, jazz, Elvis, ect...my dad always told me I was born in the wrong era....he was right

Oh, and Whew, on not feeling dumb anymore. How can you buy lenses without seeing a dr? My visits are usually lengthy due to the fitting part....I guess i'm doing it right and have a good doc. YAY for me

I thought that a fitting was part of the exam. Although that would probably depend on whether you wanted contacts or not, huh? No sense in a contact lens fitting if you want to wear glasses, is there?

Well, I was born in the very late 60's which meant that I was in high school and listening to the radio a lot in the 80's. That's why I like 80's music--it brings back memories. To this day when I hear "The Best of Times" by Styx I think of my clock radio clicking on in the morning.

On buying lenses without seeing a doctor, you do need a prescription to buy contact lenses from any reputable website. If they don't require a copy of your prescription or at least your doctor's phone number--pass them by. Your prescription should be good for a year, so if you've seen your doctor in the last twelve months you can just ask him or her for a copy of your prescription.

I hope that helps and remember:

We are young
No one can tell us we're wrong
Searching our hearts for so long
Both of us knowing
Love is a battlefield.

Hopefully Pat Benetar's lawyers aren't members here.

Hee hee. Look at all those young people scratching their heads.

Peter Gabriel rocks.

Did you know that Pat Benetar had planned to attend Julliard to study music but "surprised family, friends and teachers by deciding a classical career was not for her and pursued health education at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. At 19, after one year at Stony Brook, she dropped out to marry her high school sweetheart Dennis Benatar"?

Thank you, Wikipedia.

Oh, and by the way, she was given the birth name of Patricia Mae Andrzejewski. Catchy, huh?

I wonder if she wears contact lenses?

Hey, who doesn't like Pat Benatar? Especially when she did her little shoulder shimmy in the "Love is a Battlefield" video.

I'm sorry, am I going too old for you?

Shake it, Patricia Mae.

Yeah, I remember that video, too. I'm old enough to remember when music videos actually looked different from each other.

Look at them yo-yos.

You made me laugh out loud, Banditcat. Nice work. Here's another 80's music video for you.

Oh Micky, you're so fine, you're so fine you blow my mind hey Mickey. (Clap clap clap) Hey Mickey. (Clap, clap, clap.)

Now I kind of look around in embarrassment and stop chanting and clapping, à la Wayne's World.
