Default AVAIRA TORIC - Proper Insertion ?

I have been wearing contact lenses for one year. I was previously wearing Acuvue but my eyes could not get adjusted.

Recently my Doctor switched me to Avaira TORIC and what a big difference in terms of comfort and vision. I see crystal clear.

The question I have is regarding the proper insertion of the contact lenses in the eye. There are no marks in the lens.

It appears to me that a thicker part of the lens goes towards the bottom, and the normal diameter is oriented towards the top of the eye.

My Doctor said to always point the thicker part of the lens towards the bottom. Sometimes I see crystal clear immediately after inserting the lens in my eyes, sometimes it takes a few minutes for me to start seeing correctly.

I will appreciate comments and feedback from anyone currently wearing AVAIRA TORIC.

You're right. The thicker part does go on the bottom. Toric lenses have to be worn a certain way. If they rotate, you won't be able to see clearly. To make sure they don't rotate, they have something called a "ballast" which is a thickened part of the lens that goes to the six o'clock position on your eye. If you don't get them in right, things will look a bit fuzzy while they position themselves correctly as you blink.

I get it, when inserting the lens for the first time if the position is not at 6 o'clock in the eye my vision is not clear until the lens positions itself after several blinks.

When I was wearing Accuvue Oasys I had to use wetting drops twice a day. My eyes were getting dry. Now that I wear Avaira, I can go all day without wetting drops.

I am a byciclist, on weekends when the weather allows it, I go on bike rides of twenty miles or more, my eyes stay moist at all times.

My Doctor recommends rubbing both sides of the lens for 30 seconds after removing the lens. My only concern is that Avaira does not have an inside-out indicator - numbers printed on the side like Acuvue - to indicate the lens is inside out.

It sounds like you're pretty happy with those Avaira lenses. I'm glad.

As far as the inside out indicator, there's a whole thread on Lens 101 about how to tell if your contacts are inside out here: http://www.lens101.com/acuvue/8171-inside-out-acuvue.html

It's pretty sad when you have to read a forum to find out how to put in contacts. Just got my Avaira toric lenses in the mail and they felt funny when I first put them in. My doctor never told me, this year or last year, that my contacts need to be put in a certain way. I'm glad you mentioned the thickness of the contact in your post, otherwise I would have continued to put them in any old way. Now that I look for it, I notice there is a tiny line on the contact that points to the thickest part.

Can you do both sides at the same time?

Well, your doctor should have spent more time with you on inserting the lenses, but I'm glad Lens 101 was there to help you out.

Now read that title and tell me it doesn't put a catchy TV theme song in your head.

You're right, Bootz. I read your post, took a trip down the hall, and I'm still humming that song.

So no one told you life was gonna be this way
(Clap, clap, clap clap)
Your job's a joke, you're broke; your love life's DOA
It's like you're always stuck in second gear
Well, it hasn't been your day, your week, your month, or even your year.
