Default Astimatism and bifocal recommendations needed

I recently visited my “eye care professional” (optometrist), and I left feeling he hasn’t kept up with the latest in contact lenses. Instead of having to pay several professionals to get information, I thought I would try to educate myself here first before getting a second opinion.

I have astigmatism (.75, 1.75) . My last pair was RGP concentric bifocal contacts. I thought I would see if there was something better out there for my situation. I asked about Synergeyes. At first he didn’t recognize the name, but then he said they had previously been known as Saturn. He said they had problems with separation and/or build up where the soft and rigid parts meet. I haven’t read this anywhere so I don’t know if this true.

When I asked about bifocal soft contacts, he said they are only successful 15 to 20 per cent of the time. He said I wouldn’t be happy with soft contacts since I’ve previously worn RGP contacts which have better optics.

So I would like to know all opinions on brands, type, etc., for someone with astigmatism who would like bifocal contacts. I want to be better prepared when I go for my second opinion.

If there is another forum site that anyone could recommend, please let me know that, too.

I have found that Bausch & Lomb multifocals work perfectly for me, when other brands (even with the same prescription) don't. I have an astigmatism, but it's not bad enough to correct, so I wear ordinary multifocals 'Soflens'.
