Are Bifocal Contacts Thicker on the Bottom?

Hi,

How can you tell if you have your bifocal contact lenses in correctly, beside not being able to see very well if you don't? I heard something about the handling tint. These are one of those kinds of contact lenses that have the slight blue tinting so you can see them in the case. Well, from what I read, of you look closely at the edges of the lens, you will see that one side is a little darker. That is the thicker part of the lens that goes on the bottom.
I've never used bifocal contacts so I've never see one up close. Can someone tell me if this is useful advice?

I've heard the same thing. The ballast of the toric contact lens makes the contact lens a little thicker on the bottom, so look for that slightly darker blue (It's very subtle.) and remember that the dark part goes on the bottom, at the "six o'clock" position.

I did a brief search on Google using the keywords "bifocal contact tint" and didn't find any pictures that demonstrate the tint of a bifocal contact lens.

I managed to find this picture. I'm guessing that what is on the tip of those dainty fingers is a tinted bifocal contact lens. It looks more blue in the center rather than on one side. So I'm guessing the answer to my question would be, no the thicker "ballast" of the contact lens that goes on the bottom is not a darker blue than the rest of the lens.

In this particular picture it's hard to tell. Does anyone have a picture that clearly shows the darker ballast--if indeed it is darker?

I did a search for the term "bifocal contact lens ballast tint" and go absolutely nothing. I narrowed it down to "bifocal contact lens ballast" and got exactly 13 results, and this was the most useful picture I could find:

It looks like it's smiling, doesn't it?

Yes it does look like it's smiling, and the crescent of magnification looks darker blue, but that picture up there is only a drawing. Unfortunately I could not find anything except this picture of a woman with bifocal glasses. It's not entirely relevant, but I think I'll keep it.
