Are Monovision Contacts Sometimes Called Bifocals?

In the United States, we have a sport that we call "football." In Europe they have a game that they call "football" but in the States it's called "soccer." The game that Americans call "football" is called "rugby" in Europe.

What's all this got to do with contact lenses? Glad you asked.

I read an article about what the author called "bifocal contact lenses." They way he described them, a different contact lens in each eye, sounds to me what I always though was called "monovision." Is the act of wearing one contact in one eye for reading and wearing another contact in the other eye for seeing in the distance ever called "bifocal contacts?"

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to watch some soccer--I mean football. Or is it rugby?
