Default What's New With Bifocal Contacts Lately?

There are probably quite few people reading this who tried bifocal contact lenses five or ten years ago and then quit because they had a bad experience with them.
What would you tell them about the latest advances that might convince them to try again?

Well that sounds like a good friend. Have you tried bifocal contacts yourself?

In our house, my wife wears contact lenses the most. I don't think she's tried bifocals yet and I'm not sure if she's a good candidate for them at this point, but I notice her having a little trouble reading every now and then.

Would there be some general information about current bifocals at the link for the sponsor site?

You betcha.

http://www.lens.com/contact-lenses/department94.asp

That is a link to the main bifocal contact lens section of lens.com. On this page you will find some customer reviews. If you click on a particular brand, you will get some more detailed information.

Here's an example: "Acuvue Bifocal are designed for people with Presbyopia (the inability to focus on short distances). Acuvue Bifocal is a contact lens that removes the need for reading glasses. Manufactured by Johnson & Johnson, Acuvue Bifocal are the only contact lenses with pupil Intelligent Design-five invisible, concentric zones that allow you to see clearly both near and far. Acuvue Bifocals are weekly disposable contact lenses that offer exceptional comfort, ease of handling, and UV blocking. You won't find yourself having to think about which part of the lens to use - you just put them on and go.

Acuvue Bifocal are tinted for ease of handling and will not change the color of your eye. The tint is simply designed to facilitate locating the contact lenses in solution. These contact lenses contain an inside-out "123" indicator to help ensure proper application/insertion."

Good job Privateyes. Way to stick up for the sponsors. (Gazing up reverently.)

Does anyone remember a show called Are You Being Served? What was it they said that caused everyone to stop talking and look up at the ceiling?

There is a new multifocal lens out by air otix. I tried it and the optics are very good. It also comes in a variety of plus and minus powers. If you have been a bifocal contact lens drop out in the past you may want to try this one!

Hi SandiStix

The new lens is from Air Optix and it called multifocal. It was just recently released in the United States. I dont know if all eye doctors have them yet. If interested you should ask your Dr for a trial pair.

I found a website featuring lenses called "Air Optix Aqua Multifocal." They must have been very recently released in the United States because I just saw a website that still says they're not available in the US.

Here's the info:

AIR OPTIX AQUA contact lenses: Dk/t = 138 @ -3.00D.
Other factors may impact eye health. Ask your eye care practitioner for complete wear, care and safety information.

It looks like Air Optix Aqua contact lenses are now available in the United States, even right here at our very own Lens.com. (Gazing up reverently.)
