Default Biofinity (toric) success story

Finally ordered Biofinity (torics) last week and got my contacts today. For the longest time I thought it wouldn't work out. Had blurring issues on nearby vision and tried a lot of different powers for about one month. In the end I found perfect vision with torics in both eyes, although most Eye Care Professionals would normally write off the degree of astigmatism in my right eye (-0.50).

I found that for some weird reason, Biofinities usually take a couple weeks to adjust until you get better clarity, longer than other lenses I've tried. Believe me when I say this, your vision DOES get better after a couple weeks. I didn't want to give up Biofinity because they are without a doubt one of the healthiest and most advanced contact lenses out there. Also, my optician told me that a small number of people report differences in visual acuity between trial pairs and normal batches that are sold. All in all, it paid off to be persistent, and I hope that you be patient when first trying these lenses too.

Thanks for the review, ilove, and the advice that these lenses take patience sometimes. I'm curious about a statement you made, though. You said that Biofinity lenses "are without a doubt one of the healthiest and most advanced contact lenses out there." I don't know very much about Biofinity lenses, so maybe you can tell me and my friends on Lens 101 what makes them so healthy and advanced. Thanks.

Biofinity is 3rd generation silicone hydrogel lenses with one of the best combinations of oxygen permeability and wettability performance. It also has low modulus for comfortable wear. It's basically one of the latest contact lens technology available.

I wear the Biofinity Toric contacts and have had nothing but problems wearing them. While they seem to do a good job correcting my vision, my eyes have been sore and itchy (especially my eyelids) and crusty after sleeping. I thought maybe I had pink eye and have had 2 sets of drops prescribed to get rid of the problem. However, no one around me has had pink eye or has gotten it from me. I threw away all my makeup and bought new stuff (getting costly at this point). Recently, I went a week wearing glasses because I ran out of my contacts. I ordered new ones and put them in my eyes yesterday and boom the eye problems were back again. I had suspicions that I may be allergic to these lenses. I have worn contact lenses for about 20 years and this is the first time I have had these problems. Anyone out there experienced the same problems while wearing these?

Hello Jackie. Sorry to read about how uncomfortable your contacts are. In a brief Internet search I didn't find any connection between allergies and Biofinity Toric lenses specifically, so it must be rare if it happens at all.
You said you thought maybe you had pink eye, and you must have if you were given two prescriptions to clear it up. Did your eyes feel better without the contact lenses in when you finished the eye drops? If so, that would seem to indicate that you had pink eye, but not from the lenses.
What contacts have you worn in your 20 years' experience? Can you go back to one of those brands?

Thanks for the reply. I only received medication after making a phone call to the doctor. The doctor didn't want to see me since pink eye can be so contagious so I was never formally dignosed with it. I questioned if it truly was pink eye, as I have had it in the past and it seemed different. I am also a neat freak and sanitized everything in my house (remotes, door knobs, computer keys, really anything you touch), so it was really weird for me to keep getting this!

I did a test and wore my glasses for a week straight and my eyes felt so much better. I purchased another 6 months of contacts (biofinity) and decided to wear them after a week of glasses. Unfortanately, my eyes went back to being irratated and itchy again. I stopped wearing them and began wearing my old contacts (Fresh Looks) and so far so good. I am making another eye appt with a doctor and refuse to wear the biofinity contacts again no matter what anyone suggests. I think I am truly allergic to them!

Wow. I think you might need to find a doctor who's not afraid of sick people.

I'm glad the FreshLooks help you see better without making your eyes pink. Let us know if you find out why you reacted to the Biofinity lenses.

Default Not for me

I am glad to hear that your experience has been good with Biofinity but that was not my case. My left eye hurt since I put them on and my vision was blurry. After a week my O.D. put me on Avaira Toric (By the same company "Cooper Vision"). I believe they also use the same material but they are just newer? Now, I can say I am better. My vision is clear, my eyes are not red and they don't hurt. So far so good...

Lens.com will tell you what the contacts are made of that they sell. Here's what they say about those two lenses you mentioned.

Biofinity -- 52% comfilcon A

Avaira Toric -- 54% enfilcon A

So they both have a similar water content, but they are not made of the same material. Is comfilcon A similar to enfilcon A? I don't know, but they're not the same.

I'm glad those Avaira Toric lenses feel better for you, segata.
